Hiring Range : Substation Service Engineer : $78,000 to $99,600. Senior Substation Service Engineer : $97,900 to $125,000. The selected candidate will be placed based on skills and qualifications.

Responsibilities
- Provides engineering support to the department for the construction and maintenance of the transmission and distribution systems. Must be available for emergency calls at all times.
- Conducts investigations, works with field personnel and equipment manufacturers to resolve equipment problems, and participates in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) with data and work history.
- Ensures proper integration of new equipment into the system, including electrical acceptance testing, training, spare parts, test equipment, safety, and maintenance / operational procedures.
- Prepares and submits studies and engineering requests to resolve identified problems, ensuring satisfactory implementation of recommended actions.
- Establishes and updates maintenance documentation for preventative maintenance programs, with emphasis on safety and updated procedures for new or upgraded equipment.
- Develops tool and test equipment requirements, including capital budget requests and cost justification; investigates current test equipment developments and recommends new methods.
- Implements environmental assignments (PCB / SF6 tracking and procedures), special test equipment procedures, and special project implementation.
- Assists Superintendent with administrative duties (budgets, meetings, updates, reports, training development) and may substitute for the Superintendent as needed.
- Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge Requirements
Thorough working knowledge of electrical / electronic engineering fundamentals as applied to the electric utility industry; typically obtained via a BSEE or equivalent experience.Professional Engineer license strongly desirable.Working knowledge of PCs / mainframe systems for spreadsheet, word processing, etc., and software applications.Understanding of operation and maintenance of substation equipment in an electric utility environment or equivalent experience.Working knowledge of LEAN continuous improvement principles and best practices to achieve operational excellence.Working knowledge of SafeStart principles and best practices to achieve a safe workplace.Skills Requirements
Excellent oral, written and listening communication skills.Strong interpersonal skills to influence various groups or individuals.Flexibility in a demanding work environment and ability to adapt to changing priorities.Ability to read, interpret and explain complex equipment operation, testing and maintenance instructions.Analytical, computational, organizational, and conceptual skills for managing projects.Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver’s license and meet driving position standards.Experience Requirements
5-7 years of experience in operation and maintenance of electrical / electronic systems in an electric utility environment for Substation Service Engineer.Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.State of Hawaii Professional Engineer License is highly desired to stamp drawings and designs for permits.Senior Substation Service Engineer
Supervises and directs Substation Service Engineer and Substation Predictive Maintenance activities across substations and vaults; provides leadership in related initiatives.Manages and develops activities for Substation Service Engineer I & II, Field Technologist, and Predictive Maintenance Specialist; capable of performing all Substation Service Engineer II responsibilities.Leads cross-department collaboration on changes to the electrical system, incident management, ERP, Smart Grid technology, asset management, and reliability strategies.Leads and consults with manufacturers, operations, project management, and contractors on equipment design, planning, scheduling, troubleshooting, and emergency response.Assists Superintendent with administrative duties and may substitute during vacations; participates in emergency response activities as assigned.Experience and Other Details
