Job description

Position Overview

Adams & Martin Group has partnered with a prestigious client to find an experienced Labor & Employment Counsel in Arizona. This role focuses on providing legal advice and services to internal business partners, particularly the Employee Services (Human Resources) team. The counsel will ensure compliance with labor and employment laws while protecting the organization's interests by advising on employee relations, workplace policies, internal investigations, and other employment-related matters.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day legal advice and counsel to HR (Employee Services) on a broad range of employment-related matters, including hiring, performance management, accommodations, leaves of absence, terminations, and employee relations.
  • Draft, review, and update HR-related policies, handbooks, agreements, and compliance documentation to align with evolving legal requirements and organizational goals.
  • Support internal investigations related to employee complaints, misconduct, and potential violations of policy or law.
  • Monitor and interpret federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; recommend policy or practice changes to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of training for HR and management on employment law, workplace conduct, and compliance topics.
  • Manage and coordinate with outside counsel on employment litigation and administrative claims, including EEOC, DOL, and state agency matters.
  • Partner with HR on risk assessments and mitigation strategies for complex or sensitive employment decisions.
  • Collaborate with other internal stakeholders to ensure a consistent and legally sound approach to employment-related matters across the organization.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on labor and employment law during organizational projects, including workforce restructures or HR initiatives.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school.
  • Minimum of five(5) years' experience as an employment law attorney, or in-house counsel with a focus on employment law, or a combination of experience.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Exceptional analytical ability.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • May require some travel.
  • Licenses, Training, and Certifications Required

  • Must be licensed to practice law in Arizona and an attorney in good standing.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working at a financial institution (credit union) or governmental agency (federal agency).
  • Required Work Hours

    Monday through Friday, first shift.
