Job Summary

The Batching Operator is responsible for accurately measuring, weighing, and mixing ingredients according to established formulas to create batches of pet food products. This role ensures that all raw materials are handled safely and efficiently to maintain consistent product quality and meet production goals. The position requires strong attention to detail, adherence to safety and quality standards, and collaboration with the production, quality assurance, and maintenance teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately measure, weigh, and prepare ingredients based on batch formulas and production schedules.
  • Operate batching and mixing equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Verify that all raw materials are available, labeled correctly, and within quality standards before use.
  • Record batch information, ingredient usage, and production data in accordance with company procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the batching area to comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and food safety regulations.
  • Monitor and adjust mixing parameters to ensure product consistency and quality.
  • Communicate any material shortages, equipment issues, or production deviations to the supervisor.
  • Assist in equipment changeovers, cleaning, and minor maintenance as needed.
  • Follow all safety guidelines, including wearing proper PPE and adhering to lockout / tagout procedures.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and cross-training activities to support team and plant goals.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior experience in food, feed, or pet food manufacturing preferred.
  • Basic math and computer skills required; ability to use scales and batching systems accurately.
  • Understanding of food safety, quality control, and sanitation standards (GMP, HACCP, etc.).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a physically demanding environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and teamwork.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends or overtime as production requires.
  • Working Conditions

  • Manufacturing environment with exposure to raw materials, dust, noise, and varying temperatures.
  • Must wear appropriate safety and protective equipment at all times.
  • Standing, walking, and lifting throughout the shift.
