Description :
The Certified Medical Assistant provides care to patients across all age groups in an ambulatory care clinic.
This position is essential in maintaining efficient clinic operations and patient flow to maximize provider time and ensure access to care.
Clinical Assistants perform administrative duties, data management, and handle basic clinical tasks.
Information is recorded in patients' charts along with medical histories.
This position works closely with providers to provide support such as rooming patients, performing Point of Care Testing (POCT), performing lab draws, and providing immunizations and other injections within the scope of practice certification.
Responsibilities include monitoring, answering phones, processing provider orders, data entry, and participation in training processes.
Must be able to make independent decisions within the scope of practice based on experience and good judgment.
Self-motivation and minimal guidance are required to ensure productivity.
This position is responsible for leading Clinical Assistant I and Clinical Assistant II positions.
Key Essential Functions :
Accurately collect and document information in patient charts.
Keep patient records in order with all forms properly identified; compile and copy other medical data as needed.
Ensure patient medication and immunization records are current.
Recognize signs or symptoms requiring prompt intervention and act accordingly.
Transport patients within the facility as needed.
Demonstrate the ability to manage patient care duties while maintaining clinic flow.
Report and, when appropriate, record any changes observed in the condition or behavior of patients or unusual incidents.
Observe patients to ensure those needing assistance have appropriate supervision.
Set up equipment and supplies for routine exams and minor procedures.
Prepare patients for and assist with procedures, treatments, and minor office surgeries.
Provide specimen collection and Point of Care Testing (POCT) following protocol.
Assist with radiology exams per protocol if competencies are met.
Assist providers as directed and trained, within the licensed scope of practice.
Assist the clinic nurse as needed.
Provide immunizations and injections as ordered by providers.
May perform basic life support, as certified.
Assist in identifying patients overdue for immunizations and preventative health maintenance.
Other Functions :
Provide cross-coverage for peers, assisting clinics as needed to ensure efficient patient flow.
Attend and participate in staff meetings and apply information presented.
Participate in unit goal setting and comply with scheduling guidelines.
Initiate discussions regarding department issues with management.
Comply with dress code and refer unresolved problems with patients or co-workers to management.
Address employee concerns consistent with policy.
Other duties may be assigned.

Communication and customer service skills.
Computer application skills sufficient for utilizing medical databases.
Ability to operate medical equipment such as blood pressure cuffs, pulse oximeters, and EKG machines.
Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
Ability to train and accurately record patient data.
Communicate and interact effectively with all members of the healthcare team.
Recognize and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
Safety and Risk Management Responsibilities :
Employees are responsible for adhering to safe work practices.
Report all accidents and injuries immediately.
Cooperate in all accident investigations and report unsafe conditions.
Physical Demands :
Regularly required to talk or hear.
Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, and reach with arms.
Occasionally required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
May frequently lift and / or push / pull up to 25 lbs.
Expected to lift patients as required.
Work Environment :
The noise level is usually moderate.
Exposure to controlled temperature environments, both hot and cold.
Job-related tasks may involve contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues.
