Description:
Registered Nurse in Oncology provides specialized care to patients diagnosed with cancer throughout diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. They administer cancer therapies such as chemotherapy, monitor patient conditions, manage symptoms and side effects, and coordinate care with oncologists and the healthcare team. The nurse also educates and supports patients and their families about treatment plans and self-care needs, offering emotional support during a challenging journey. Strong clinical skills, compassion, and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary setting are essential in this role
BMT - Oncology / Mixed acuity PCU and MS unit
Experience:
Must have MS and oncology experience in checklist (1 year minimum). Heme Onc experience is strongly preferred. Chemo certification is NOT required
Patient Diagnoses:
• Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)
• Acute Myeloid Leukemia (Adult)
• Amyloidosis
• Aplastic Anemia
• Chronic Leukemia
• Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL)
• Chronic Myeloid (Myelogenous) Leukemia
• Hodgkin's Lymphoma
• Multiple Myeloma
• Myelodysplastic Syndrome
• Myeloproliferative Disorders
• Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma
Special Procedures/Unit Details:
• Autologous Transplants: Patients receive their own stem cells.
• Syngeneic Transplants: Patients receive stem cells from their identical twin.
• Allogeneic Transplants: Patients receive stem cells from their sibling, parent, or an unrelated donor.
• CAR-T Therapy
Certifications Required:
• Basic Life Support (BLS)
Preferred Certifications:
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
• Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Certification
Oncology Certified
Skills Required:
• MS/Tele (Medical-Surgical/Telemetry)
• Telemetry monitoring
• Interpretation of dysrhythmias
• Use of Rapid Response Teams
• Feeding tube care and management
• Blood product administration
• Central line blood draw
• Peripheral line care/management
• PICC line management
• Nasal cannula administration
