The Tax Manager is a senior role within the tax department and is primarily responsible for the review and preparation of the annual federal and state income tax returns and quarterly income tax provision calculations, to support the growth of the business and Carriage's overall mission. Specifically, the Tax Manager :
- Oversees the review, preparation, and timely filing of federal and state income / franchise tax returns.
- Oversees the review, preparation, and timely accounting of quarterly tax provisions.
- Assists the Tax Director with the review of monthly sales tax returns.
- Supports the Tax Director with special projects and modelling for M&A and Divestiture activity.
- Assists the Tax Director with trust taxes and the management of external consultants.
- Implements, maintains, and trains others on tax compliance and provision software products.
- Acts as a change agent in furtherance of the Company's 2030 strategic vision.
- Mentors, supervises, and provides day-to-day guidance to staff in the areas of responsibility.
- Researches ongoing applicable income and tax accounting changes.
- Prepares, manages, and maintains the Company's tax policies and procedures framework.
- Oversees and maintains the Company's compliance calendar for all facets of tax in coordination with various tax staff.
- Oversees and responds to tax notices as necessary.
- Adheres to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and complying with regulatory requirements as directed by governmental agencies in the reporting of all tax accounting information.
- Analyzes all tax accounting reports for accuracy and compliance.
- Responds to SOX and internal audit requests as needed.
Requirements :
Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Masters in tax preferred.Minimum of seven years' income tax, ASC 740, and ASC 718 experience.Clear communicator and proven ability to lead others with empathy.CPA (Certified Public Accountant) preferred.Technical knowledge of corporate and partnership federal taxation and state income taxes. Sales tax experience a plus.Experience managing IRS and state income tax audits. Indirect tax examination experience a plus.Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and financial reporting including ability to interact with external financial statement auditors.Detail oriented and ability to work in a team setting.Ability to meet daily deadlines and perform tasks in a timely manner.Experience working tax software. Onesource and PowerBi experience preferred.Ability to analyze data and provide recommendations.Ability to be a self-starter and resolve issues with minimal supervision.Maintains a positive attitude and working environment through organization and communication.Ability to simultaneously handle multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and exercise good judgment.
