Referral Support Specialist

Location : Pittsburgh, PA

Employment Type : Contract-to-Hire (CTH)

Schedule : Monday - Friday 8AM-5PM or 11AM-7PM; 40 hrs / week

Must be available on 1 / 1 (New Year's Day) for client program launch support

Pay Rate : $22.00-$23.50 / hr

Role Overview The Referral Support Specialist oversees and manages the daily processing of patient referrals, ensuring accuracy, timely onboarding, and smooth communication between health plans, pharmacies, and internal teams. This role serves as both a problem-solver and escalation point , identifying issues in workflows or systems and ensuring that patients receive their specialty medications without delays.

Core Responsibilities

• Monitor referral queues and dashboards to ensure timely processing and pharmacy onboarding.
• Track the referral lifecycle to maintain continuity of care and update patient eligibility or therapy changes.
• Investigate and reassign referrals when routing errors or delays occur.
• Research and resolve issues using multiple internal systems and Jira.
• Identify and report recurring routing or system deficiencies to improve efficiency.
• Manage client escalations professionally and provide timely status updates or resolutions.
• Communicate with prescribers, pharmacies, and internal teams to ensure follow-up and issue resolution.
• Maintain organized documentation and accurate case records.
