Job Title : Registered Nurse Profession : RN Specialty : Orthopedic Inpatient Duration : 13 weeks Shift : Night Hours per Shift : 12.5 hours (7 : 00 PM - 7 : 30 AM) Experience : Minimum of one year of relevant nursing experience License : Illinois state RN License in good standing Certifications : BLS (American Heart Association) Must-Have : Trauma 1 experience, Epic experience Description : Performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service. Implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team. Completes initial assessments upon patient admission and develops appropriate plans of care in accordance with unit standards based on patient and family needs. Implements plans of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Modifies plans of care based upon continuous evaluation. Takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and / or correcting safety hazards and incidents. Communicates with others directly and privately when necessary to resolve issues. Offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers. Confers with colleagues to expand the knowledge base. Identifies own learning needs and takes the initiative to begin appropriate solutions. Fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies. Assesses orthopedic and medical / surgical patients every shift. Educates orthopedic and medical / surgical patients on wound care, proper mobility, self-care, medication management, care transition needs, and any additional patient-specific needs. Coordinates with physician and surgeon partners on the care of orthopedic and medical / surgical patients. Delegates and monitors interventions of the healthcare team staff. Sets up orthopedic traction and manipulates surgical traction devices for mobility and wound care. Manages wound appliances such as wound vacs, drains, pouches, and other urological devices.
