Job description

POSITION :   Server

EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION :   Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO :   Co-owner / General  Manager, Floor Manager

Sesamo,  is a Modern Italian restaurant with Asian influences, located in Hell's Kitchen. We combine traditional American Italian classics with Asian citrus, spices, and techniques, reinvigorating the style within our quintessential New York neighborhood restaurant environment. Within a short 3 years on the corner of 10th Ave and 52nd Street, we have received rave reviews from Forbes and were named one of the "Top Restaurants to Try Now in Hell's Kitchen" by Time Out.

We now seek a  part-time to full-time  server   to add to our amazing team!

Requirements include attention to detail, organization, strong food / wine / beverage knowledge, a professional demeanor, discretion, and the ability to work as a team player. Must also have verifiable references. Fine dining experience preferred.

Ideal candidates should have the following :

  • 5+  years of experience   as a server at a   New York fine dining restaurant, high-volume experience.
  • Strong wine and liquor knowledge
  • Knowledge of standard classic restaurant or fine dining restaurant service procedures
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about Italian, Asian and Japanese ingredients, culinary terms, spirits, liqueurs, and Italian wines
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in teams
  • Strong sense of hospitality and willingness to go extra miles to achieve guest satisfaction
  • Extra ability to multi-task under pressure
  • Ability to use POS system, and efficiently work with processes and systems in place

    • RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Daily opening and closing sidework
  • Interact with the team effectively and express genuine hospitality to guests
  • Learn menu, beverage descriptions, and allergies
  • Able to use all the sales tools to achieve high check averages
  • Cleanliness, stocking, and organizing
  • Be warm, kind, knowledgeable, and noticeably appreciative
  • Accommodate guests by making each individual feel welcome
  • Act professionally and accommodating, and always maintain composure
  • Identify and report problems to management immediately
  • Be aware of service flow, dining timing, and adjust for each guest’s individual needs
  • Manage floor guests with the utmost attention to detail
  • Properly carry out restaurant standards, procedures, and uphold policies
  • Attend training meetings

    • REQUIREMENTS :

  • Must have experience in a fast-paced and preferably fine dining establishment as a captain or server
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability to maneuver between functions occurring simultaneously
  • Must have intermediate or proficient knowledge of standard culinary terms, spirits, liquors, beer and wine.
  • Must be able to take constructive criticism and work well in a team dynamic
