Hiring range : $19.94 - $22.93 hourly; $41,490 - $47,714 annually Open until filled.
General statement of duties : Performs responsible semiskilled work on a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair projects; operates equipment in connection with tasks; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.
Distinguishing features of the class : Performing a variety of semiskilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of public facilities such as streets, water and sewer lines, drain ways and sidewalks.

Typical Qualifications
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities : General knowledge of the safe use, operation and preventive maintenance of the equipment to which assigned; skill in the use of equipment to which assigned; ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions; ability to lift heavy articles; ability to read and write; good physical condition; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associations.
Acceptable experience and training : High School diploma or GED preferred and minimal experience in the operation of motorized equipment. Those applying without a high school diploma or GED must have 10th grade reading level and ability write complete sentences.
Minimum requirements : Possession of or ability to acquire a Class A commercial driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina within six months of employment. Demonstrated safe driving history.
Possession of or ability to obtain Class C Water Distribution, Wastewater Collections I certifications, Flagger, ITRE and Pesticide certification as needed within one year of employment as applicable for each Division.
Job related physical activity requirements : This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 80 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and / or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, visual inspection involving small defects and / or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arm's length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, and determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, oils, and wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus.
Other Necessary Requirements
A Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) must be maintained during the duration of employment.
This position requires a Commercial Driver License and is regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT). This position is subject to random substance abuse testing at any time for the duration of employment and while occupying a DOT regulated position.
