Overview

Telecommunication Technician Level 2 - Dallas, TX role at Alamon, Inc. Alamon is a Montana-based employee-owned company since 1975 that provides installation services to the utilities, energy, and communications industries nationwide. There is no ceiling to professional growth at Alamon, an employee-owned company. This position is in the Network Services (NWS) department and requires extensive travel to customer sites nationwide, including Central Offices, MSOs and Data Centers. The role involves installing equipment including but not limited to Adtran, Cisco, Ciena, Infinera, Fujitsu, Calix, Nokia, Galaxy 4848, and Galaxy Millennium Controllers. Vertiv Power Systems, Eltek Power Systems and Wet / VRLA Battery replacements.

Base pay range

$25.00 / hr - $31.00 / hr

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain telecommunication equipment, including routers, switches, servers, and infrastructure equipment.
  • Install and sew copper and fiber cables utilizing an array of connector types.
  • Install relay racking, cable racking, fiber ducting, auxiliary framing, and other superstructure elements (RJ45, wire wrapping, BNC, LC / SC, etc.).
  • Run cables, connect wires and ensure equipment is running properly and efficiently.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues including network connectivity equipment malfunctions and software errors.
  • Assist with upgrading and expanding systems to accommodate new technologies and increased capacity.
  • Understanding of hand tools, test equipment, and ability to use a computer to interface with customer products.
  • Proficient understanding and experience in lacing / stitching / sewing central office wire.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports on performance, status and completed work orders.
  • Work with team members, technicians, engineers, and project managers to coordinate installs, upgrades and perform maintenance.
  • Adhere to all safety standards and regulations set forth by the company and governmental regulations.
  • Stay up to date on industry practices and latest advancements in trends.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Position Qualifications

  • Must pass pre-employment screening including background check, drug test, and motor vehicle records check.
  • Ability to work outdoors in physically demanding environments and all-weather conditions; lift up to 50 lbs; hike over varied terrain.
  • Current and valid driver's license with a clean driving record; no DUI / DWI within the past 5 years.
  • Willing to travel locally, statewide, or regionally as required.
  • Be available to work nights and weekends as project demands require.
  • Work Environment

  • Position requires visiting Alamon customer site facilities nationwide; travel is required.
  • Must be able to work in enterprise, educational, warehouse, and manufacturing settings.
  • Indoor and outdoor work will be based off the scope of the contract.
  • Exposure to dust, odors, gases, vapors, varying noise levels, and wet or slick surfaces may be possible.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in compliance with company standards and governmental regulations when appropriate.
  • This position may require working outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions and terrain; may work for long periods in hot, cold, wet, windy, or icy conditions.
  • Physical Demands

  • Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. at a time.
  • Must be able to ride in a vehicle for extended periods of time to travel to and from job sites.
  • Ability to work in different temperatures and through changing weather conditions.
  • Must be able to traverse all areas of the jobsite. This may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, kneeling, or stretching.
  • Ability to clearly distinguish colors, shades, and brightness when working with multi-colored cablings such as twisted pair copper and fiber optic cable.
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions and use practical judgment while working through job assignments.
  • Ability to work at heights, handle ladders, along with pushing and pulling equipment.
  • Travel Requirements

  • Extensive travel is required. Lodging is provided while traveling for the Company.
  • Education and Experience

  • High school Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Possess excellent time-management skills and multitasking abilities.
  • Extensive understanding of hand tools, test equipment, and ability to use a computer to interface with customer products.
  • Proficient using a laptop and using Microsoft Office and Google Drive.
  • Communicate effectively, including proficiency in written and verbal communications, with strong listening skills.
  • Have the ability to work with and demonstrate the safe operation of power tools including bandsaws, rotary tools, cable cutters, hammer drills, and hydraulic crimpers.
  • Thorough understanding of, and adherence to company safety policies and incident reporting procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret floor plans, rack drawings, and customer-provided work orders.
