Medical Assistant

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

Performs variety of patient care, technical, and administrative duties to assist practitioners and other members of health care team in providing high quality patient care through health care system. The Medical Assistant participates as a team member in the overall functioning of the clinic. The Medical Assistant is responsible for the flow of the patients for assigned providers (as applicable) each day. They perform duties and procedures as described in the Primary Responsibilities section.

Fred Hutch Wellness Center supports all of our high-risk prevention and surveillance clinic. They are focused on caring for patients who are at high risk for developing cancers due to different factors. Our clinical nurse coordinators perform care coordination to all of our patients. They partner with our providers in creating surveillance plans and providing follow up and support to patients. It is a multi-disciplinary team who collaborate with each other daily to ensure the best patient care.

Responsibilities

All Essential Functions of the MA I Position and Disease Group MA. Provides support to a specific team in these areas :

  • Leave paperwork / Prior Authorizations / Prescriptions refills
  • Answering / screening incoming phone calls
  • Coordinating outside labs results and notify pt. of norm labs results
  • Acts as preceptor / trainer
  • Assist with Nurse Triage
  • Performs blood draws as directed
  • Reinforce compliance in billing / coding
  • Facilitates distribution of clinical contacts, schedules and care management tools.
  • Monitor and assist with clinic flow, adjusting as needed to ensure efficient pt. flow.
  • Request medical record from external / internal facilitates and prepare for provider review.
  • Collaborates with clinic nursing supervisor to develop operational strategies and process improvements for department / unit.

Customer Service :

  • Acts as a liaison between patients / families and health care providers.
  • Assist in resolving and / or responding to non-clinical related patient complaints and inquiries
  • Qualifications

    Required :

  • Completion of a medical assistant program offered by a school accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP); or
  • Military training or experience may also satisfy the training and experience requirements
  • 2+ years relevant work experience
  • Certified Medical Assistant in the State of Washington and must be familiar with the State's conduct and standards of practice.
  • Surgical Technologist Registration in the State of Washington State and must be familiar with the State's conduct and standards of practice (Application must be submitted within 1st 30-days of hire)
  • Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent course, such as by the American Red Cross) and renewal required every two years
  • Willingness to participate in the process improvement initiatives
  • Proficient in email and word processing systems
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records
  • Strong interpersonal and customer services skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, complex healthcare environment
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and problem solve
  • Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to follow direction and guidance
  • Ability to recognize limitations and seek help
  • Ability to identify learning needs and plan learning opportunities
  • Ability to appropriately respond to emergencies or disasters per clinic protocol and scope of practice
  • The hourly pay range for this position is from $31.26 to $44.51 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. This position is not eligible for H-1B sponsorship at this time.

    This position may be eligible for a sign-on bonus, up to $3,000. Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center offers employees a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance health, well-being, and financial security.
