We are a family-owned construction company with long-term stability seeking a detail-oriented Project Accountant with construction industry experience to manage job costing, collections tracking, and purchase order management on-site in Galveston. You’ll support the Controller and Senior Accountant and be the primary accounting presence at project locations to ensure accurate financials, timely collections, and effective purchasing controls.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain and update job cost ledgers and job-cost reporting, regular reconciliation of job costs to budgets
- Track and manage accounts receivable for projects; follow up on collections and maintain aging schedules
- Create, track, and reconcile purchase orders; coordinate with project managers and procurement to control costs
- Enter and manage project data in CMIC and QuickBase; produce reports and analysis to support decision-making
- Prepare project-related journal entries, month-end close support, and variance analysis
- Communicate daily with site management, project managers, and office accounting to resolve discrepancies
- Support invoicing, change-order accounting, and lien waiver / document management as needed
- Assist Controller and Senior Accountant with ad-hoc financial projects and audit support
Required qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fieldMinimum 3 years’ experience in construction accounting or project accountingProficiency with CMIC and QuickBase; strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP / XLOOKUP, formulas)Strong job-costing knowledge and experience managing AR and purchase orders for construction projectsDetail-oriented, organized, and able to work both independently and collaborativelyPreferred
Experience with lien waivers, change-order accounting, and construction contractsFamiliarity with payroll coordination for construction crewsPhysical Demands :
