In this position, you will assess the physical and driving qualifications of applicants, along with the mechanical condition of their vehicles, to ensure compliance with safety standards. This includes conducting various vision tests, such as telebinocular and color perception evaluations. You will also administer knowledge examinations for both non-commercial and commercial driver licenses to verify applicants' familiarity with the Vehicle Code and traffic signs. Additionally, you will oversee the pre-trip, skills, and driving tests, ensuring adherence to departmental guidelines. Your responsibilities will involve reviewing applications, registrations, and permits for any irregularities or signs of fraud, as well as evaluating vehicle characteristics to determine the necessary tests. Furthermore, you will inspect motor vehicles to ensure they meet safety requirements, including the presence of inspection stickers, functioning lights, and operational windshield wipers.
Full-time employment, 80 hours bi-weekly. Work hours are 8 : 15 AM to 4 : 45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch. Work overtime and travel when needed. Minimum Experience and Training Requirements : One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public. Special Requirements : This position requires an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Drivers License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application. This position requires no suspensions or revocations of a drivers license during the five year period immediately preceding employment. All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M drivers license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment. This position requires possession of an active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Drivers License or equivalent with the following endorsements : P and N. The Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions : E, L, N, O, or Z. Other Requirements : You must meet the PA residency requirement. You must be able to perform essential job functions. Legal Requirements : A conditional offer of employment will require submission of criminal history reports. This position requires the selected candidate to undergo and pass a Fingerprint and Name-Based Criminal History Check prior to employment.
