Responsibilities
- Plans, prepares, installs, and maintains piping and plumbing systems composed of various materials; systems may include pipes, pressure and vacuum gauges, pipeline filters, steam traps, and strainer valves.
- Consults blueprints, work orders, schematics, or instructions; creates working procedure based on specifications.
- Gathers equipment and materials for the job.
- Welds, cuts, bends, threads, solders, and fits pipes.
- Attaches pipes and piping systems to walls using brackets, bracket systems, or clamps; cuts or bores holes prior to project.
- Installs various types of insulation and pipe covering; safely removes and properly discards of old coverings according to hazardous waste procedures and in accordance with EPA and OSHA requirements.
- Inspects pipes, testing for pressure and leaks; reports and / or resolves problems.
- Coordinates with manager to schedule machinery maintenance, repairs, and installation to minimize disruption to operations.
- Complies with applicable safety and building codes, regulations and best practices.
- Maintains records, including safety logs and inspection details.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Successful completion of a four-year apprenticeship that included classroom and on-the-job instruction in pipefitting or related field.Required state licensesAbility to read schematics and blueprints.Ability to use a variety of tools, which may include blowtorches, saws, pipe benders, and welding torches.Prior commercial experienceExcellent customer service and communication skillsStrong organizational skillsMust be able to lift, push, and pull in excess of 50 poundsOSHA CertifiedNFPA 51b – Hot Works CertifiedBenefits & Perks
