About Wabash Valley Correctional Facility :

As part of the Indiana Department of Correction, the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility promotes public safety by providing meaningful and effective opportunities for successful re-entry. The Wabash Valley Correctional Facility is a multi-level security Correctional facility for adult males. The Wabash Valley Correctional Facility is located in Carlisle, Indiana. The Wabash Valley Correctional Facility has both minimum security and maximum security. It offers multiple programs to meet the needs of the incarcerated population, including the Special Needs Acclimation Program or SNAP. Wabash Valley's staff has implemented many beneficial programs to ensure a well-run facility that offers incarcerated individuals a genuine opportunity for growth while maintaining public safety. The facility is also heavily involved in the community, providing support to local food pantries, schools, and other community organizations.

Role Overview :

As a Deputy Warden at Wabash Valley Correctional Facility, you will work independently, receiving general instructions and policy directions from the Warden / DOC Executive Staff. You will make authoritative decisions on the content and extent of programs that have significant impact on facility operations. On the Warden's behalf, you may interact with groups as the news media, community groups, and community officials. You will have contact with administrative, program and custody staff for the purpose of coordinating and managing the activities of the facility. You will have contact with offenders for the general purpose of providing custody care. Many of these interactions may involve a high level of conflict resolution.

Salary Statement :

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $75,010.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life :

The essential functions of this role are as follows :

• Develops, establishes, and implements high / medium security facility policies, procedures, and objectives;
• Formulates operating procedures for areas of assignment and recommend improvements to Warden;
• Participates in staff selection, training and evaluate staff performance;
• May confer with offender's family on issues such as visitations and commissary;
• Assists with facility budget preparation;
• Partners with various groups on outreach programs and media regarding facility operations;
• Coordinates, participates in, and investigates staff / offender issues and discipline;
• Coordinates activities of the internal offender disciplinary board;
• Recruits, selects, onboards, and trains employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development;
• Sets expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensures work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and / or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
