SkyWater Search Partners is collaborating with a growing Construction Management firm focused on building top of the line educational facilities across the country. They are looking to add an experienced Mechanical Designer to their local office in the Twin Cities.
Role Overview
This role focuses on delivering top-tier technical documentation and system layouts for building environmental systems, with a strong emphasis on precision, efficiency, and collaboration. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal part in shaping project outcomes through hands-on technical input and team coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Partner with design professionals to create fully integrated system plans
Conduct field reviews to document and verify current infrastructure
Select and scale components to optimize performance and cost-effectiveness
Take full responsibility for technical standards and document quality
Produce comprehensive system schematics and layouts using digital drafting tools (e.g., CAD and BIM platforms)
Review designs for compliance with technical and regulatory requirements
Analyze issues and develop practical, timely solutions
Respond proactively to project challenges, engaging with peers as needed
Oversee timelines, costs, and deliverables throughout the design process
Assist in the formulation of holistic design strategies
Collaborate with site teams to align evolving design intent with field conditions
Help project leads track scope evolution and flag potential contractual impacts
Associate-level technical education or equivalent hands-on experience in environmental or mechanical systems
5+ years in a design-focused role involving building systems or HVAC infrastructure
Effective critical thinker with a methodical problem-solving approach
Meticulous with a strong eye for detail
Adept at working with internal and external collaborators
Known for professionalism, ethical conduct, and fostering mutual respect
Clear communicator with excellent written and verbal skills
Consistently meets deadlines while maintaining high accuracy
Holds self and team accountable for project milestones
Working knowledge of major building infrastructure systems
Highly organized, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently
Technologically savvy, with experience in industry-standard office and design tools
Confident in interpreting and marking up engineering drawings and schematics
Willing to adapt to shifting schedules and project demands
Able to support, coach, and develop junior team members in technical disciplines
