Advertised Job Summary :
The McCausland College of Arts and Sciences at the University of South Carolina invites applications for the Peter and Bonnie McCausland Distinguished Chair in Neuroscience . The University of South Carolina has invested heavily in research and clinical care for neurological disorders and is soon to break ground on South Carolinas first hospital specializing in neurological care on the new Universitys Health Sciences Campus. The University forms the hub of the Rural Brain Health Network, with the latest medical imaging (with widebore 3T and parallel transmit 7T MRI). The incoming Peter and Bonnie McCausland Distinguished Chair in Neuroscience will bring a research program focused in or closely complementing University strengths in areas of neurodegenerative disorders, stroke, and neurodevelopmental disorders.
With a start date of August 16, 2026, this 9-month, tenured position will have its academic home in the Department of Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Biochemistry, or Psychology, depending on the candidates area of expertise.
This recruitment comes with a generous startup package and ability to recruit additional neuroscience faculty to build a research group. They will be expected to establish collaborations with the Brain Health Center, McCausland Brain Imaging Center, Carolina Autism and Neurodevelopment Center, and SmartState Centers for Neurotherapeutics and Childhood Neurotherapeutics for basic and / or translational research as well as the School of Medicine, Arnold School of Public Health, College of Pharmacy, and Molinari College of Engineering and Computer Science. The specific research focus may apply genetic, biochemical, cellular, medical imaging, or systems level neuroscience to understand, diagnose, and treat neurological disorders.
Required Education and Experience :
Must have a Ph.D. or M.D. with validated expertise in the neurosciences and must be eligible for appointment at the Professor level at the University of South Carolina per University policy ACAF 1.06 . The successful applicant will have a clear track record of research productivity with evidence of continuing success in extramural funding for their research program and broadly cited publications. The departmental assignment in the McCausland College of Arts and Sciences is negotiable based upon qualifications and research interests.
