Public Works Manager
Performs administrative, managerial, and supervisory work involving the planning, organizing and management of the Public Works Transportation Division. Transportation Responsibilities include supervisory work in the direction of activities in the Public Works Department's Roadway & Maintenance Division. The Manager is responsible for planning, scheduling, coordinating, and directing the division's activities in the street, alley, parking lot, sidewalk maintenance, and repair.
Assists in managing the operation of the Transportation Division.
Assists in the administration and management of departmental activities in the areas of assigned responsibility; processes requests from the public; investigates and resolves complaints.
Assists in coordinating inter-division activities and joint projects.
Ensures coordination of public works activities with state and county governmental agencies and other City departments in areas of mutual interest.
Assists in the coordination of the development of division safety programs.
Assists in preparing and administrating the Transportation Division budget and preparing other appropriate annual budgets.
Assists in preparing specifications for specialized equipment and materials common to that required in areas of responsibility.
Assists in evaluating bids received on such equipment and recommends to the Department Director.
Assists periodically in evaluating the cost of providing certain services or the performance of certain work assignments compared to the cost if done under a private contract.
Supervises, directs, and advises the staff of the Transportation section, manages personnel and resources, and assists in developing schedules for departmental work programs.
Prioritizes daily duties and assignments of the section given the changes in daily workload and delegates duties to the staff to ensure an equitable distribution of the workload and effective cross-training.
Assures that City policy concerning purchasing procedures and accounting principles are accurately and consistently applied to the accounts payable process by establishing procedures, reviewing the work of subordinates and other divisional personnel for compliance with those procedures, and answering questions.
Conducts performance evaluations for employees in the Transportation section.
Interprets and explains policies to employees and the public.

Ability to plan, organize, schedule, and coordinate large and diverse maintenance projects and activities and provide for the effective utilization of personnel and resources.

Education and Experience : High school diploma from an accredited school or a GED; five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in stormwater / transportation construction projects related to this position; three (3) years of experience in a responsible supervisory capacity in a stormwater / transportation construction-related field; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience which provides the necessary intermediate knowledge, skills, and abilities and other competencies necessary for the position.
Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements : Valid Florida Driver's License required, and a Commercial Driver's License Class B Asphalt Paving Level 1 & 2 preferred Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays This position may be designated as Mission Critical by the City Manager
