Introduction
The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) is an independent State agency that regulates Maryland's $49 billion insurance industry and protects consumers by monitoring and enforcing insurers' and insurance professionals' compliance with State law. Staff members are subject matter experts who serve as a resource for lawmakers, consumers, and other public and private entities.
The MIA is charged with a broad range of responsibilities including the licensure of insurance carriers and insurance producers (brokers / agents) operating in Maryland, the conduct of financial examinations of companies to monitor financial solvency, and the review and approval of rates and contract forms. The MIA investigates reports of consumer fraud and consumer complaints about life, health, automobile, homeowners, and / or property insurance. Insurance carriers are subject to market conduct examinations and other actions to monitor compliance with Maryland law. The MIA also has a unit dedicated to consumer education and outreach, which participates in hundreds of events and reaches thousands of individual consumers annually.

POSITION DUTIES
The Maryland Insurance Administration's Financial Regulation Division is recruiting to fill a Junior Analyst position. This position reviews initial registration applications to determine whether organizations should be permitted to conduct insurance related business in Maryland, and reviews renewal applications for businesses already authorized to transact insurance related business in Maryland. The Junior Analyst notifies companies of upcoming license expiration and provides instructions and documentation to facilitate license renewal; analyzes financial statements and audited financial statements to ensure minimum surplus and capital requirements are met to approve continued licensing for various renewal application types; and enforces Maryland laws and regulations to ensure compliance with renewal application requirements. Additional job duties include reconciling check deposit entries with reports maintained by the agency's Fiscal Services Unit and accurately processing that information in the SalesForce system; and maintaining and performing data validation in that system. The Junior Analyst is also responsible for processing and maintaining records of all legal documents (i.e., writs of garnishment, subpoenas, and summonses).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education : Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university.
Experience : Two years of administrative experience in an office environment.
Note : Additional administrative experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to two years of the required education.
