The Opportunity
Were seeking a Project Estimator to join our dynamic preconstruction team. This role is essential to delivering accurate budgets and competitive bids that reflect New Stars reputation for excellence. The ideal candidate has a keen eye for detail, a deep understanding of construction processes, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed cost estimates for high-end residential, multifamily, resort, and commercial projects
- Collaborate closely with project managers, superintendents, architects, engineers, and clients to ensure budgets align with design intent and scope
- Conduct take-offs, analyze subcontractor proposals, and prepare bid packages
- Evaluate drawings, specifications, and project documents to anticipate costs, risks, and opportunities
- Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and partners to ensure competitive pricing and reliable execution
- Provide value engineering options and cost-saving recommendations to clients and internal teams
- Support preconstruction efforts, from conceptual pricing through GMP (Guaranteed Maximum Price) development
- Assist in project handoff, ensuring a smooth transition from preconstruction to field execution
Education & Experience
Bachelors degree or equivalent in Engineering, Construction Management, Operations Management, Business Management, or a related field OR 5+ years of experience in estimating for luxury residential, multifamily, resort, or commercial construction (Utah market experience preferred)Field or internship experience in heavy civil, tunnel, or mining construction is considered an assetPrior estimating experience in luxury residential, multifamily, resort, or commercial construction is preferred but not requiredQualifications
Strong understanding of construction means, methods, and sequencingProficiency in estimating software (Procore, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or similar)Ability to interpret architectural, structural, and MEP drawingsExcellent analytical and organizational skills, with attention to detailStrong communication and client-facing skillsPhysical Requirements
Ability to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods, including navigating active construction sites and uneven terrainMust be able to climb stairs, ladders, or scaffolding as required during site inspectionsAbility to lift, carry, and move materials or equipment weighing up to 25 lbs.Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach in various environmentsTolerance for a range of weather conditions when performing outdoor site visitsAbility to safely use and wear all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, vests, and bootsVisual and auditory acuity sufficient to perform essential job functions, including reading plans and communicating on busy construction sitesWhy Join New Star
