Overview
KBR's National Security Solutions team provides high-end engineering and advanced technology solutions to customers in the intelligence and national security communities. This Data Engineer role focuses on enabling data-driven decision analysis products by applying methods from data science, machine learning, and operations research to support DoD modernization.

Key Responsibilities
- Analytic Experience : Provide analytic consulting services, support analytic workflow and product development, promote best practices from data science, conduct applied methods projects, and assist in creating analysis-ready data.
- Onsite Support : Serve as the face of the CHEETAS Team, ensuring stakeholders have the analytical tools, data products, and reports they need to make data-driven recommendations.
- Stakeholder Assistance : Assist analysts and non-analysts with analysis of DoD datasets and demonstrate insights from T&E data to stakeholders and VIPs.
- Communication : Communicate effectively at programmatic and technical levels, with on-site support from the broader data science, software engineering, and systems teams as needed.
- Technical Support : Run and operate CHEETAS and other tools; demonstrate tools to stakeholders, adapt internal tools and reports, gather requirements, and report bugs or feature requests; provide training and troubleshooting support as needed.
- Independent Work : Work independently with minimal supervision.
Work Environment
Location : OnsiteTravel : 25% with potential surge to 50% to support DoD sites across the US (including Alaska and Hawaii). When not onsite, remote work or office-based work is possible where available.Working Hours : Standard, with potential on-site coverage where needed.Basic Qualifications
Security Clearance : Active TS / SCI clearance is requiredEducation & Experience : Degree in operations research, engineering, applied math, statistics, computer science or information technology with 15+ years of DoD experience; 10–15 years considered case-by-case; entry level not considered.Technical Experience : 5+ years in big data analytics; 5+ years with object-oriented and functional languages (e.g., Python, R, C++, Java, etc.).Data & Analytics : Experience handling imperfect data; strong foundation in software engineering, programming, statistics, data mining, ML, and modeling; significant ETL experience and working with large data and DoD data types.Big Data Infrastructure : Experience with Spark, Trino, Hadoop, Hive, NoSQL graphs, SQL with Polybase, and data visualization.Additional Qualifications
Proficiency with scripting languages (Python and R) and notebooks (Jupyter, RMarkdown) for reproducible analytics;Experience with interactive visualization tools (RShiny, pyShiny, Dash);Ability to present reports and findings to customers;Experience building and optimizing big data pipelines and data sets;Data preparation for time series and geospatial data;Working with Windows, Linux, and containers;SQL querying and distributed storage / computing environments (Spark, Trino, Hadoop, Hive, Neo4J, JanusGraph, MongoDB, etc.);Experience with code repositories and collaborative development;Strong communication skills and the ability to present to diverse audiences;Ability to document procedures for reproducible research and create end-user training materials;Problem solving under pressure and time constraints;Self-motivated to design and implement data-driven analytical products;Ability to collaborate with data scientists to design optimal technical solutions.Understanding of ETL processes and data architectures; knowledge of queues and stream processing.Ready to Make a Difference?
