UW Team Leader
Under general supervision, oversees the operations, processes and workflow of a small underwriting team. Team may include : professional employees and / or support staff. May also be responsible for handling a book of business.
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following :
- Achieves planned results through decisions and actions based on professional methods, business principles, and practical experience.
- Creates an environment within the team that fosters creativity, innovation, teamwork, engagement, and growth.
- As part of the UW Management Team manages peak workloads, develops strategies on how to handle volume in a timely manner.
- Will recommend or make decisions regarding existing or new programs that have a significant impact on operations and carry potential consequences if unsuccessful.
- Participates in regularly scheduled meetings to discuss team results and recognize employees; maintains open communication within the team and with the UW Management Team.
- Uses file reviews to ensure underwriting guidelines and authorities are followed and quality standards are met.
- Participates in hiring decisions, coaching, and disciplinary actions as necessary, under the guidance and direction of the Assistant UW Manager and / or the Branch UW Manager.
- Assists manager in selecting highly qualified new hires for open department positions.
- Provides appropriate supervision, coaching, and mentoring to assigned staff.
- Provides on-going performance feedback to direct reports.
- Conducts annual performance reviews on assigned staff.
- In consultation with the underwriting manager addresses performance management issues timely and appropriately.
- As part of the UW Management Team helps identify staff to assign special projects or task forces for development.
- Works very closely with others in the department and branch to promote teamwork.
- Apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Works productively and harmoniously with others on a consistent basis.
- Respond positively to direction and feedback on performance.
- Consistently maintain professional and appropriate demeanor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience requiredBachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience requiredExperience Qualifications
5+ years progressively responsible related work experience requiredSkills and Abilities
Ability to understand and articulate Zenith's underwriting philosophy and standard industry procedure.Demonstrates leadership in current position and potential for broader leadership responsibilities.Knowledge of workers' compensation policy rules.Strong presentation and listening skills.Strong oral and written communications skills used to explain, teach, and document.Advanced skill in data analysis.Ability to determine reasonable workloads and strategies for peak periods.Strong reading and math skills.PC literacy required.Driver License in good standing.The expected salary range for this position is $132,373.44 to $165,466.80. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience, geographic location, and other job-related factors as permitted by law.
Qualifications may warrant placement in a different job level.
