Job Summary :
Fielders report field conditions for design engineers to accurately design the network. Responsible for aerial and underground data collection while validating a viable cost-effective path for engineering. Fielders may be assigned to perform field inspections of cable / fiber placement, splicing, and construction work on job sites after completion. The majority of fieldwork is conducted outdoors along public right of way, utility easements, and private property.
Job Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to) :
Collect relevant pole information and accurately document existing measurements and placementUtility pole identification, inspection, and classificationGather aerial attachment heights and clearances, checking for violationsDetermine ideal locations for new above ground facilities and equipmentConduct Underground / Buried Cable layout surveysDevelop accurate fiber / optical network construction surveysDetermine existing and new locations for fiber optic cablesInspect the work of construction contractorsAccurately depict new construction route opportunitiesAssure that personal vehicle and tools are maintained to company safety standardsResponsible for always conducting job in safe mannerTake pictures of job sites, pole conditions and other relevant structures or landmarksMake hand drawn sketches of recommended engineering design while in the field or facilityUpload clear images, files, hand notes, and sketches, and edit for quality and cohesivenessMake decisions taking into consideration value engineering and the impact on construction, installation and future maintenanceOpen hand holes to inspect facilities (substructure conditions, fiber placement, and condition)Inspect fiber optic cables and the work of construction contractors.Assist with data preparation and documentation of reporting field results.Attend field meetings with client’s field personnel as well as government agencies and construction contractors.Operate and maintain field equipment and tools such as laptop, iPad, height stick, camera, personal protective equipment (PPE), etc.Daily travel to job site(s) using company or personal vehicleAt times, may be required to interface with customers / landownersOccasional extended travel out of assigned market may be requestedRequired Skills & Qualifications :
General
High school diploma or GED equivalentValid driver’s license; satisfactory driving recordHighly organized, self-starter, and detail orientedExcellent verbal and written interpersonal communication skillsSuperior time management skillsStrong attention to detailAbility to be flexible, take direction with ease, including changes to schedule and workflow prioritiesCritical thinking skills; make assessments and provide solutions to problemsAbility to follow direction in maintaining all Field Safety standardsPhysical requirements :o Ability to stand, stoop, squat and bend for extended periods of time
o Ability to look up for extended periods of time
o Ability to walk for extended periods of time and / or long distances
o Ability to navigate through potential uneven walkways / terrain
o Tolerant to extreme elements (heat, sun, wind, rain, snow, etc.)
o Good vision and depth perception (corrective lenses OK)
o Ability to sit and drive for extended periods of time
o Ability to lift 10lbs minimum, and potentially up to 50lbs
Technical
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, Adobe Acrobat, and Google EarthAbility to upload / download and edit documents in Project Management softwareAbility to quickly learn new systems and databasesDesired Skills & Qualifications :
Comprehensive understanding of telecommunications design and the ability to support engineeringBasic Knowledge of Make-Ready ConstructionKnowledge and experience with telecommunications engineering standards and construction techniquesAssociate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics is a plusExperience in either the engineering, construction, architecture or telecommunications industries is a plusThe Fine Print :
