FindTalent is supporting a major engineering services provider in their search for an Engineer III – Protection & Control (P&C) to join their team onsite in the Southeast. This position offers the opportunity to provide advanced substation protection and control design, engineering leadership, and technical guidance for high-voltage utility projects, including transmission substations, solar collector stations, and battery energy storage systems.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise in P&C design, project management fundamentals, and team leadership. This role involves managing design deliverables, overseeing project schedules and budgets, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful delivery of safe, cost-effective, and high-quality projects.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and engineering of substation protection and control systems for voltages up to 500kV.
Develop and review one-line and three-line diagrams, AC / DC schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and SCADA communication designs.
Design and implement protective relaying schemes for transmission lines, buses, transformers, and capacitor banks.
Prepare detailed project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and technical documentation.
Perform system studies including coordination, fault current, insulation coordination, and voltage drop analyses.
Provide engineering support during construction, including site visits and issue resolution.
Lead, mentor, and review the work of junior engineers and designers to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with standards.
Collaborate closely with internal teams, contractors, and clients to maintain clear communication and successful project execution.
Ensure compliance with all safety, quality, and engineering standards.
Support proposal development, project budgeting, and client presentations as needed.
Key Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an EAC / ABET-accredited institution (or equivalent).
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; ability to obtain within one year required.
5–7 years of progressive experience in substation protection and control engineering.
Strong understanding of protective relaying fundamentals and utility substation design principles.
Experience with P&C design software, protective relay settings, and system study tools.
Working knowledge of project management practices, budgeting, and scheduling.
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CAD or design software used in P&C projects.
Effective communication and leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Additional Information
Full-time onsite position in the Southeast.
Occasional travel required for project support and site visits.
