The Patient Transporter is responsible for safely, timely, and accurately transporting patients while providing the utmost positive experience. Provides the pivotal first and most lasting impressions while setting the tone that the key concept of patient transportation is the human element. This position is held to the highest standards of being friendly, empathic, knowledgeable, well-spoken, bilingual, and continuously patient-oriented. Patient Transporter harmonizes the patient transportation experience while working seamlessly with hospital staff to reduce unnecessary delays to help drive patient satisfaction.
This position has two shifts and two schedules :
1. Every weekend - two shifts select either 7am - 3 : 30pm or 2 : 30 - 11pm
2. Every other weekend - two shifts select either 7am - 3 : 30pm or 2 : 30pm - 11pm
Key Responsibilities :
- Patient Transport : Safely transport patients via wheelchair, stretcher, or bed to designated areas within the hospital, including those with oxygen tanks, IV pumps, monitors, and other necessary equipment.
- Assessment and Communication : Assess patients to determine the most effective transport method. Communicate vital patient information to department managers, group leads, and other team members as needed.
- Equipment Management : Ensure the cleanliness and proper function of all transport equipment. Assist in the distribution, retrieval, and cleaning of clinical equipment throughout the facility.
- Safety and Compliance : Adhere to all hospital and departmental policies, with special attention to safety, infection control, and confidentiality (HIPAA compliance). Follow standards of precaution, MSDS, and hand hygiene directives.
- Team Collaboration : Cooperate effectively with team members to consistently meet the changing needs of patients, the department, and the hospital.
- Quality Improvement : Participate in departmental quality assurance and improvement activities. Demonstrate initiative and creativity to continuously enhance services and processes.
- Documentation : Transport charts and specimens in a confidential and efficient manner. Handle all work-related information with care to maintain patient privacy.
- Training : Complete all mandatory training as designated and required by the hospital.
Qualifications :
Education : A GED or high school diploma is required.Certification : BLS (basic life support) – can be obtained while in trainingLanguage Skills : Proficiency in English requiredPhysical Requirements : Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and transporting patients.Experience : 1 yr of Patient Transport experience strongly preferredKnowledge, Skills and Attitudes :
