Job Summary / Purpose

The Director of Nursing for Labor and Delivery (L&D) is a visionary and strategic nursing leader responsible for the overall operational, clinical, and administrative management of the Labor and Delivery unit. This role encompasses ensuring the delivery of high-quality, safe, and patient-centered maternal and newborn care, fostering a culture of excellence, and optimizing unit performance. The Director of L&D is a champion for clinical best practices, staff development, patient satisfaction, and financial stewardship within the L&D department.

Essential Functions :

Clinical Leadership & Quality Assurance :

• Patient Care Excellence :  Ensures the provision of compassionate, evidence-based, and patient-centered care for laboring mothers, newborns, and their families.
• Clinical Standards : Establishes, implements, and monitors adherence to professional nursing standards, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements (., AWHONN, Joint Commission, state health departments).
• Quality Improvement : Leads and participates in continuous quality improvement initiatives, including identifying areas for improvement, developing action plans, and monitoring outcomes related to patient safety, clinical efficacy, and satisfaction.
• Risk Management : Proactively identifies and mitigates risks within the L&D unit, ensuring a safe environment for patients and staff. Investigates and responds to patient safety events and complaints.
