1. POSITION PURPOSE (Summary)

Under the broad direction of the Radiologist and Imaging Services Director, the Radiologic Technologist is responsible for radiographic examinations utilizing diagnostic imaging equipment. The Radiologic Technologist must be familiar with anatomy, physiology and physics needed to produce quality diagnostic studies, as well as, practicing radiation and patient safety precautions. The technologist will also be required to understand the secretarial duties needed to assure proper documentation of the studies performed.

2. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education : Graduate of Committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation Program or equivalent on-the

job training program as approved by the Medical Director of the Imaging Services Department. Certification

with the American Registry Technologist (ARRT) is preferred

Experience : One year experience preferred. Competency in components of Imaging practice, patient positioning

and exposure factors as related to Radiography. Must have an understanding of pathology, including knowledge

of disease, anomalies and abnormalities that influence performance of procedures.

Licenses / Certificates : CT registry preferred, CPR preferred

3. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Observe professional ethics in maintaining confidential information acquired concerning the personal, financial, medical and employment status of patients or their families of the hospital.

Must follow and enforce accepted safety practices of the hospital including reporting of safety hazards..

Must participate in safety instructional programs.

Must participate in all hospital and Imaging Services mandatory programs and meetings.

Must answer and direct incoming telephone calls, to appropriate personnel as necessary, in a professional and courteous manner.

Performs office registration procedures accurately in absence of clerical support personnel.

Must completely input all patient information and procedures in computer.

Must ensure that all pertinent information is on the patient’s requisition, entered into CR and PACS.

Assists in obtaining data for performance improvement compliance.

Assists with the transportation of patients as necessary.

Demonstrates anatomy under investigation through proper patient positioning, technique selection, administration of radioactive materials, application of immobilization and radiation protection devices according to policy and procedure.

Performs routine radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures using radiographic equipment.

Responsible for the preparation and administration of contrast materials as prescribed by phys order.

Receives consultation requests, checking for special instructions from the requesting physician. Consults with the Radiologist as necessary.

Pleasantly greets patients, confirming their identification.

Performs diagnostic testing and general maintenance on equipment.

Develops and checks for validity and accuracy of radiographs.

Introduces self and completely explains procedure to the patient and his / her family, if present.

Updates patient examination history file, records unusual conditions / limitations, documents examination time, technique factors and contrast material injected.

Coordinates cases with other patient examinations.

Assists in maintaining supplies used in the department.

Maintains cleanliness of the equipment and work area.

Assists in the scanning of reports.

Performs office registration procedures accurately in absence of clerical support personnel.

Maintains professional acumen through active association with professional organizations, attends in-service education programs and departmental meetings.

May be required to rotate call schedule including weekends, holidays and second / third shifts.

Performs additional job related duties as required or assigned by Director.
