Kelly Government Solutions is hiring for RHEL systems administrator on a DoD contract with our customer in Newport News, VA.  This assignment should last approximately six months and could be extended.

Our customer is seeking a skilled and motivated System Administrator to join their team supporting the SPY-6 Family of Radars. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining the IT systems that support this critical radar technology. This role requires expertise in networking, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and troubleshooting, as well as a strong commitment to ensuring system security and availability. This position also requires the ability to travel up to 25% of the time to support mission-critical operations.

Duties & Responsibilities :

Administer and maintain systems supporting the SPY-6 radar family, ensuring optimal performance and availability

Perform system troubleshooting and resolve hardware, software, and network issues as they arise

Conduct regular system monitoring, patch management, and performance tuning

Maintain and configure Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate and troubleshoot radar system components

Implement and maintain system security measures in accordance with DoD standards and protocols

Support network configurations, including IP address management, VLAN configurations, and Layer 3 Switches management

Create and maintain documentation for system configurations, processes, and troubleshooting guides

Travel up to 25% of the time to domestic locations to support system installations, maintenance, and operational needs

Required :

Minimum of three to five (3-5) years of relevant experience in system administration and networking support

Active Top Secret Clearance

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience

IAT Level I Certification or Higher (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, CCNA, Security+, etc.)

Proficiency in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration

Strong understanding of networking concepts, routing protocols, and troubleshooting (e.g., OSPF, BGP, DNS, VLANs)

Experience diagnosing and resolving complex system and network issues

Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% of the time, as required

Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or in a team environment

Strong documentation and communication skills

Desired :

Experience working in a Department of Defense (DoD) or military environment

Familiarity with radar systems or other defense-related technologies

Knowledge of virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM)

Experience with configuring and managing firewalls and intrusion detection systems

Experience with PowerShell, Bash and / or Python scripting

Familiarity with version control and collaboration tools (e.g. JIRA, Confluence, ClearCase)
