Animal Educators, Inc. Supervisor Animal Caretaker

Job Summary :

  • Manage and work with the rest of the animal care staff to complete daily animal care ensuring that the physical and mental well-being of all animals within our care are properly met as outlined by the USDA, CA Fish & Wildlife, and U.S. Fish & Wildlife.
  • Animal Caretakers also help host interactive animal encounters by providing a safe and educational experience to guests who visit through Public and Charitable programs.
  • Assist with animal presentations during special events hosted on property.
  • Supervise, manage, lead, and maintain oversight of the above activities.
  • Ensure that the proper staff is scheduled to achieve the above activities on a daily basis.
  • Assist business owners with Human Resource duties.
  • Support Animal Educators by communicating and putting into action the direction of business owners.
  • Ensure staff meet all expectations and standards for the care of animals and facilities.

Minimum requirements and characteristics needed for optimal success :

o JOB EXPERIENCE

o One or more years' experience supervising / leading animal department and personnel required.

o Four to six years hands on wildlife care experience required.

o Reliably shows up to work as scheduled (clocks in / out according to protocol)

o Takes responsibilities seriously and makes animal care top priority

o Ability to work autonomously once trained

o Work as a leader of our team in a professional, positive, and friendly manner

o Clear, competent and honest communication with coworkers and management

Key functions and responsibilities (be able to conduct and manage staff in the following :

  • Is not afraid of animals and is capable of working in direct contact with all animals according to protocols at our facility
  • Understanding and ability to work with business owners to update daily animal diet preparation as needed
  • Completion of and / or management of staff to complete daily feeding & watering of animals and cleaning of enclosures & exhibits
  • Daily observation of animals and enclosures to determine health of the animals and safety / security of enclosures
  • Animal observation and ability to "read" animal behavior
  • Successfully be able to present animal interaction programs
  • Handling of animals for programs and / or medical care
  • Administration of medication
  • Enclosure repair
  • Exhibit maintenance
  • Complete daily care records and maintain properly for permit compliance
  • Create and implement training schedule of new employees and ongoing training for existing employees
  • Directs volunteers in volunteer animal care duties / responsibilities
  • Benefits requirements :

  • Each full time employee is allowed the equivalent of 2 of their work week's paid vacation after their initial 90 days introductory employment and accrued at 6.67 hours per month
  • Each employee is allowed 3 paid sick days and 2 paid personal days per year to use as needed.
  • Hourly position - $26.50 / hour with salary opportunities for growth with the success of the business.
  • Animal Educators, Inc. provides $450 / month (in addition to hourly) towards monthly group medical premium.
