HDR's H&R market sector professionals engage with clients to provide expertise in bridge and highway design, traffic engineering, transportation planning and tolling services, and HDR services including advisory, environmental, strategic communications, facilities and more.
Primary Responsibilities
- Market leadership and business development (approximately 70%)
- Staff development (approximately 20%)
- Support to Operations (approximately 10%)
- Set the vision for HDR's strategy in the Highway & Roads market sector and coordinate with regional and area leadership to implement growth initiatives and staff development to hit market sector goals
- Lead the development and implementation of business strategies in coordination with business group leadership, operational leadership, client managers, business class directors and practice group leaders
- Report to the Transportation Business Group Market Strategy Director and maintain frequent communication with region and area leadership to execute strategic growth and operating plans at the market sector level
- Support area business development and client management; engage with key clients and coordinate with other HDR sectors to win and deliver work
- Represent HDR externally to industry organizations and drive growth of the market sector globally, including expansion outside the US
- Engage with clients to bring HDR's full range of services including advisory, environmental, strategic communications, facilities and more
Business Development Responsibilities
Oversee creation and implementation of the market sector vision and direction, aligning technical and professional services with business group and operations leadershipServe as Client Manager for selected key clients within the market sectorParticipate in projects as Principal-In-Charge when appropriatePromote HDR services to clients within the market sector in partnership with client managersParticipate as a member of the Transportation Business Group Management TeamCollaborate with Regional Business Group Directors on area goals and market sector initiativesDrive client development and capture processes with client managers and business development leaders to pursue opportunitiesSupport area and strategic pursuits through client relationship development and pursuit activitiesParticipate in industry associations and serve as a company role model in business and community organizationsIdentify key investments in acquisitions and technology to maintain HDR's leadership positionMonitor marketing capabilities to ensure alignment with departments to achieve goalsDevelop relationships with industry counterparts in other consulting organizationsDevelop and maintain relationships with senior leadership in key client organizationsLead HDR's relationships with other firms and pursue strategic partnerships that may lead to acquisitionsLead HDR's presence with industry organizations in US, Canada, EMEA and APAC regionsStaff Development Responsibilities
Own Global Market Sector P&L in coordination with local area managers and coordinate work-sharing among departmentsWork with business class directors to drive technical excellence and coordinate staff to support project delivery and marketingCoordinate staffing and recruiting plans for key hires; approve key / strategic hires; participate in annual performance conversations for market sector leadersSupport to Operations
Assist Regional Business Group Directors and area managers in delivering professional services for market sector projects; drive client management, monitor market sector profitability, review staff assignments, encourage work-sharing, ensure project delivery and QA / QCMonitor market sector performance indicators such as profit, unbilled revenue, AR, and investments; manage staff workload and resource sharingSupport risk management and claims resolution; promote QA / QC and disseminate lessons learnedQualifications
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or closely related fieldMinimum 12 years of industry experience including leadershipStrong written and verbal communication skillsStrong client management, client development and a proven history of growing or leading a practiceStrong business skills including budgets, staff and operationsAbility to analyze the marketplace and position HDR strategicallyCommitment to HDR's employee-owned culturePreferred Qualifications
Minimum 20 years experience in planning / engineering highway design or bridge designProfessional engineering license or equivalentPast leadership positions within highway / road industry associations including AASHTO, IBTTA and other similar organizationsWhat We Believe
