Job Details : Purpose

Support research and development of electroacoustic transducers and mechanical components for high frequency sonar systems and their integration and deployment on Unmanned Underwater Vehicles for the Advanced Technology Laboratory (ATL) at ARL.

Required Qualifications

B achelor's degree in engineering, computer or information science, or other applied sciences.

Experience designing acoustic sensors or autonomous underwater vehicles.

Candidate must have parametrically modeled custom mechanical components and assemblies for academic or work settings.

Proven ability to take designs to completion including managing fabrication efforts and hands on assembly experience, through understanding of fabrication techniques including machining, additive manufacturing, molded parts, and composites.

Experience designing for subsea environments.

Proficient in executing numerical methods for structural design using COMSOL or similar commercial FEA software.

Applicant must have a dynamic skill set, willing to work with new technologies, be highly organized and capable of planning and coordinating multiple tasks and managing their time. The position will require attention to detail, effective problem solving skills and excellent judgment. Ability to work independently with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member without daily supervision and effectively communicate with all groups of clients. Able to work under pressure and accept supervision. Regular and punctual attendance.

US Citizen. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience using python as a calculation, automation, or signal processing tool is preferred.

Designing and testing of dynamic systems, robotics or similar experience.

Knowledge of motion control and controller development.

Experience with electromechanical system design, component layout, assembly, power / signal routing, and thermal optimization.

Knowledge of piezoelectric ceramic transducers and assembly of sonar arrays.

Experience in sensor testing and calibration methods.

Active DOD security clearance.

Salary Range

$88,500-$120,000+ / negotiable depending on qualifications
