Key Responsibilities
Customer service : Assist customers or technicians in person, over the phone, and via email with parts inquiries. Identify their needs and provide expert advice and technical assistance to ensure they purchase the correct part.
Parts Identification : Use catalogs and systems to look up parts, provide recommendations, and order items that are out of stock
Order processing : Process sales transactions, handle payments, and create invoices for retail customers, service technicians, and wholesale accounts.
Communication : Provide quotes, follow up on back-ordered parts, and communicate effectively with customers, technicians, and suppliers.
Inventory management : Manage and maintain accurate parts inventory, which includes daily restocking, ordering out-of-stock items, and performing cycle counts.
Special orders and follow-ups : Place special orders for parts that are not in stock, track shipments, and notify customers and technicians when the order arrives.
Returns and credits : Process customer and vendor returns, inspect items for damage, and issue proper credit or refunds.
Promotional sales : Promote sales, specials, and companion parts to maximize revenue and ensure customers are aware of the full product line.
Workspace Organization : Keep the counter and inventory areas clean, organized, and uncluttered.
Documentation : Maintain clear and orderly records of all repair orders, invoices, and special-order parts.
Continuous learning : Stay current on new products, technical information, and industry trends by participating in training programs.
Qualifications and Skills
Education and Experience : A high school diploma or equivalent is generally required. Prior experience in parts sales, retail, or customer service. (preferred)
Product knowledge : A strong knowledge of automotive or equipment parts, systems, and mechanics is essential for assisting customers.
Customer service skills : Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are needed to interact with a diverse customer base and resolve issues professionally.
Organizational skills : Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are critical for managing inventory, tracking orders, and handling paperwork accurately.
Technical proficiency : Familiarity with inventory management software, point-of-sale (POS) systems, and electronic parts catalogs.
Problem-solving abilities : The capacity to identify customer needs and find creative solutions or alternative parts is a valuable skill.
Physical demands : The role may require standing for long periods, lifting heavy parts, and handling materials.
Work ethic : A positive, reliable, and team-oriented work ethic is necessary for success in a fast-paced environment.
