Description
Jefferson County is seeking an Associate or Civil Engineer based on qualifications. The Successful applicant will work in the Capital Improvements Program (CIP) group of the Transportation & Engineering Division, responsible for performing engineering activities and construction management related to roadway, bridge, stormwater drainage, and traffic operations projects.
Responsibilities
- Inspect construction work and record observations.
- Track project budgets.
- Respond to citizen questions and concerns.
- Review contractor project schedules.
- Review project plans and specifications, performing entry-level technical engineering analysis and calculations.
- Manage project budgets (for Civil Engineer level).
- Lead construction projects related to roadway, bridge, stormwater drainage, and traffic operations.
- Represent the County at applicable meetings for assigned projects.
- Co-ordinate with county and agency personnel during design review and construction.
- Conduct field inspection activities during project construction and maintenance.
- Participate in review of critical path method (CPM) schedules, measure quantities, prepare progress payments, evaluate change orders.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations for stormwater management and traffic safety.
- Support the coordinating of street traffic controls and safety.
Qualifications
Education : Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field.For Associate : One year of experience in civil engineering, roadway construction, or related field.For Civil Engineer : Three years of experience in civil engineering, roadway construction, or related field.Licenses : Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) at hire for Associate; Professional Engineer (PE) license at hire for Civil Engineer.Experience with portfolios : Cartograph, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite.Construction plan review experience and knowledge of state and federal design standards.Strong written and oral communication, time management, and ability to collaborate across groups.Passion for roadway design, construction, traffic engineering, and transportation safety.Essential Duties
Serve as project manager and engineer, performing construction oversight and engineering in compliance with Federal, State, and County standards.Review construction plans and specifications, assist with construction budgeting and change orders.Represent county in project meetings and cooperate with contractors and county personnel.Address citizen concerns and maintain public safety on site.Coordinate with right-of-way agents, utility companies, and county personnel during planning, design, and construction.Additional Job Information
