Welcome to OneEighty a safe place, a source of hope and new direction. We’re a private, non-profit organization dedicated to helping people in and around Wayne and Holmes counties in Ohio. We provide comprehensive addiction, domestic violence, mental health and behavioral health services and operate multiple care facilities throughout our service areas.

OneEighty is seeking to hire a full-time Family Peer Mentor to serve families referred to children services due to child abuse or neglect and parental substance use. The FPM provides peer support to help families navigate through the child welfare and other systems while also providing hope and motivation to keep children safe and families together.

Essential Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Serves as a member of the local START (Sobriety, Treatment and Reducing Trauma) team along with the child welfare caseworker, child welfare supervisor, and behavioral health service provider. The goal of the entire team is to keep children safe and families together.
  • Working jointly with the OhioSTART case worker and behavioral health provider to ensure seamless and efficient delivery of intensive wrap-around services to the START families on his or her caseload to assist with the safety of the child(ren).
  • Participating as an active member of the OhioSTART team by attending initial meetings, weekly status meetings, and Family Team Meetings to review families' progress and child safety in their respective cases.
  • Providing continual exploration of family's needs to empower the family to take ownership over their long-term successes and the safety of the child(ren).
  • Supporting the parent(s) in achieving personal independence.
  • Connecting the START families to community resources. Teaching families skills to effectively navigate to the child welfare system. Assisting families with identifying and accessing natural support systems in the community.
  • Promoting coordination and linkage among providers within local community. Coordinating or providing assistance in crisis interventions and stabilization of families.
  • Assisting families to develop empowerment skills through promoting self-advocacy.
  • Identify barriers (internal and external) to full participation in community resources and developing strategies to overcome those barriers.
  • Providing input on court forms, as needed. Providing input on development of the case plan and child safety.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities :

  • High school diploma, or equivalent required.
  • Must be certified as a Certified Peer Recovery Supporter (CPRS) at time of hire or within first 6 months.
  • Must be a self-identified person currently or formerly receiving mental health services; or a self-identified person in recovery from substance use disorder (recommended 3 years).
  • Must have lived-experience with the child welfare system either as a parent or a child, with the case closed at least one year, or if you do not have direct CPS experience, be able to describe how your substance use affected your children and family.
  • May not currently receive clinical services at OneEighty.
  • Must be in recovery and have at least two years continuous sobriety.
  • Must have a valid Ohio Driver License and maintain a driving record that allows the individual to be insurable with the insurance company providing OneEighty's vehicle insurance.
  • Must demonstrate no ongoing criminal activity.
  • Must be certified in CPR and First-Aid, or able to attain certification.
  • Ability to use a computer; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite : Outlook, Word, Excel and Electronic Health Record.
  • Understands the importance of maintaining confidentiality; able to maintain confidentiality under HIPAA standards.
  • Must work cooperatively under the supervision and direction of persons who may or may not have lived experience in recovery.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to facilitate and maintain productive communication while maintaining a professional relationship with clients and coworkers. Ability to work as a team.
  • FPM should have knowledge of, or be able to attain knowledge of : alcohol and drugs (pharmacology), behaviors associated with addictions, court processes, HIPAA, local resources and services, process of recovery, trauma-informed care, and treatment options.
  • FPM should have skills in : advocacy and coaching, communication (listening, verbal, and written), crisis intervention, organization and time management, setting personal and professional boundaries, and parenting / problem solving.
  • Work Schedule : Hourly, non-exempt position. Generally Monday - Friday, but flexible hours, which include nights and weekends to fulfill job duties.

    Immediate Supervisor : Clinical Director

    Location : Wayne County Children Services

    Pay Range : $16.00 starting pay, increases dependent on education, licensure, and experience.
