Manager Of Environmental Health And Safety (Ehs)

Weisiger Group is searching for a Manager of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) for our Carolina Cat Power Systems division to implement and maintain EHS programs, and drive injury and vehicular incident reduction, regulatory compliance, and a positive safety culture. As Manager EHS Power Systems, you will be a leader of EHS functions within our Carolina Cat Power Systems division and be responsible for improving the health and safety performance of assigned Carolina Cat Power System branches, and for technicians who travel to and serve our customers at their locations. Each day you will partner with Carolina Cat Power Systems leadership and work with branch and mobile technicians that service generator sets, switchgear, electrical systems, and power generation equipment. You will work closely with partners in Operations, Fleet, Continuous Improvement, Human Resources, and Legal to further our EHS program. This position requires a strategic approach to drive EHS continuous improvement, program scalability, and sustainability. You will use data to evaluate trends related to leading and lagging indicators to help your partners focus on safety, and project management techniques to drive performance improvement through safety incident prevention, investigation, and mitigation.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as EHS regulatory and incident reduction subject matter expert and representative for Carolina Cat Power Systems, a division of Weisiger Group
  • Partner with Carolina Cat Power Systems leaders and support teams to identify and prioritize EHS continuous improvement initiatives relating to risk reduction, incident reduction, cost reduction, and regulatory compliance
  • Identify emerging EHS compliance and incident risk trends and drive the implementation of existing policies and practices, or create new initiatives as needed to mitigate risks
  • Drive change management and communications to ensure efficient and effective EHS program implementation alignment with stakeholders
  • Leverage stakeholder feedback to inform and align EHS support initiatives with the needs of Carolina Cat Power Systems.
  • Act as a self-motivated creative problem-solver, listen, adapt, simplify, and lead teams through complex situations to implement simplified issue-resolution actions
  • Provide proactive oversight of EHS policy implementation through behavioral and regulatory compliance assessments and Gemba walks
  • Drive EHS improvement actions to closure utilizing project management techniques, including clear improvement area identification, ownership, closure tracking, and post-closure validation
  • Develop employee training and communication tools and administer coaching and formal training
  • Drive incident investigation and corrective action process effectiveness
  • Assist with EHS data analysis and trend report generation
  • Assist with workers' compensation claim reporting and management actions
  • Perform new location startup safety management system implementation activities
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety or related field and a minimum of 7 years of industry experience practicing occupational safety and health management.
  • Certified Safety Professional, OSHA Certified Instructor, or other occupational safety certifications preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge of electrical hazards and safety protocols, including :
  • NFPA 70E standards for electrical safety in the workplace
  • Arc flash hazard analysis and risk assessment procedures
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements for various electrical tasks
  • Lockout / Tagout (LOTO) procedures for electrical equipment
  • Safe work practices for high and low voltage systems
  • Electrical safety program development and implementation
  • Grounding and bonding requirements for power generation equipment
  • Electrical safety training development and delivery
  • Experience with safety assessments for switchgear, generator sets, automatic transfer switches, and other power distribution equipment
  • Comprehensive knowledge of electrical safety standards including OSHA 1910.269, OSHA 1910.333, and IEEE standards related to power systems
  • Understanding of electrical incident investigation techniques and root cause analysis
  • Advanced project management, change management, stakeholder management, and continuous improvement experience
  • Advanced behavior-based safety program implementation and sustainment experience
  • General knowledge of worker's compensation laws and general claims management practices
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbal, written, procedural, training, etc.) throughout all levels of the organization based on work-product purpose and the needs of the audience
  • Ability to consistently travel approximately 70% to regional branch locations (Asheville and Greensboro) and to job sites and be able to travel on short notice based on business needs.
  • Proficiency with modern Microsoft Windows Office software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook email
  • Exhibit professional presence and exercise mature judgment when partnering and communicating with employees, management, and customers
  • Ability to establish and maintain trust with organizational partners through effective collaboration, negotiation, conflict resolution, and long-term partnership-building

    Work Environment

    While performing the duties of this Job, depending on the branch and / or field location, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and equipment, elevated or uneven walking / working surfaces, noise, regulated atmospheric conditions (i.e. fumes or airborne particles); outside weather conditions, and chemicals.
