Note : This is a Hybrid opportunity with compensation dependent on candidate's geographic location, overall experience, and skill level.

Responsibilities :

As a member of the federal tax team, you will have the following responsibilities :

  • Oversee and ensure timely, accurate filing of all federal tax compliance assignments and projects.
  • Prepare or review tax-related financial statement calculations, accounting entries and disclosures.
  • Stay ahead of technological and AI trends affecting the tax industry; recommend and implement best practices and innovative solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams - including IT, Finance, and external partners to achieve shared goals leveraging AI and other technologies to drive continuous improvements.
  • Independently conduct tax research; develop well-supported conclusions and document findings.
  • Assist with the implementation of effective, value-adding tax planning strategies that enhance the company's worldwide tax position.
  • Manage tax controversy matters, including preparing and reviewing responses to information requests and analyzing trends for future improvement.
  • Lead projects by defining deliverables, managing timelines, identifying issues, and ensuring successful completion.
  • Champion process improvement initiatives across the department.
  • Monitor and communicate changes in tax laws and regulations that impact the business.
  • Mentor, train, and coach junior staff, providing ongoing feedback and development.
  • Work collaboratively across Corporate Tax and Finance functions to achieve shared goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Information Systems or a related field.
  • Advanced degree or certification preferred (MST, MSA, MBA, CPA or JD).
  • At least 2 years of US Federal tax or finance-related IT experience (financial reporting, compliance, audit, planning) or equivalent, preferably with a major public accounting firm or large multi-national company.
  • Experience in the insurance industry a plus but not required.
  • Strong interest in how technology and AI impact the tax function.
  • Demonstrated passion for both tax and technology, with a strong commitment to continuous learning and process improvement.
  • Excellent communication skillsable to convey complex information clearly to both tax and non-tax audiences.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across diverse teams.
  • Highly motivated, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Adaptability and a positive attitude when navigating change or ambiguity.

    The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and / or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
