Job Title : ED Medical Coding Escalation Specialist
Job Summary :
The ED Medical Coding Escalation Specialist is responsible for resolving complex Emergency Department coding issues and ensuring accurate, compliant code assignment. This role supports both onshore and offshore coding teams by providing expert guidance, conducting detailed documentation reviews, and serving as a liaison between coders, auditors, providers, and compliance teams. The specialist helps maintain high coding quality standards and fosters collaboration across global teams to improve accuracy and efficiency in ED coding workflows.
Key Responsibilities :
- Review and resolve escalated ED coding issues from domestic and offshore teams, providers, and auditors.
- Analyze ED medical records to ensure accurate assignment of CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes.
- Act as a subject matter expert in ED coding guidelines, payer policies, and CMS regulations.
- Identify coding trends and discrepancies; recommend corrective actions and process improvements.
- Collaborate with global coding teams to enhance documentation quality, communication, and workflow.
- Provide education and mentorship on ED coding scenarios and regulatory changes.
- Participate in audits and support implementation of corrective actions to maintain compliance.
Qualifications :
3–5 years of experience in Emergency Department coding and / or coding quality assurance.Experience working with or supporting offshore / global coding teams.AAPC or AHIMA certification required (e.g., CPC, CCS).Expert knowledge of ED coding practices, CMS regulations, and payer guidelines.Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.Proficient in EHRs, coding platforms, and Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook).Comfortable working across time zones with culturally diverse teams in a fast-paced environment.
