Job Title : Lead Engineer HIL Test Engineer
Job Location : Remote
Job Type : Long-Term Contract
About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Engineer HIL Test Engineer to support hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) validation for power systems, inverters, battery energy storage, and control systems. This role is hands-on and technical, involving HIL rig development, plant modeling, automated testing, controller / PLC integration, and full defect lifecycle management. You will collaborate closely with controls, firmware, modeling, and system engineering teams to ensure robust, safe, and high-fidelity validation.
Key Responsibilities
HIL Rig Development & Operation
- Build and operate HIL rigs using Speedgoat and Simulink Real-Time.
- Configure I / O mapping, deterministic scheduling, and solver settings (targeting ~1 ms step sizes).
- Manage harnesses, configurations, and hardware setup for reliable system operation.
Plant Modeling
Develop and maintain Simulink / Simscape Electrical models for PCS / inverters, filters / transformers, BESS, and BMS.Validate model accuracy using bench and field data to ensure high-fidelity simulations.HIL Simulation & Integration
Integrate Schneider M580 PLCs with Speedgoat using Modbus TCP.Validate commands, telemetry, alarms / events, time synchronization, and fail-safe sequences.Perform end-to-end controller validation in a real-time environment.Test Authoring & Execution
Derive requirement-based MiL / SiL / HIL tests for :Power / VAR control, ramp-rate, frequency / voltage response
SoC management, thermal deratesRide-through behaviors, startup / shutdownFault and abnormal operating scenariosExecute tests and document results with traceability.Automation & Regression Testing
Implement automated regression suites with pass / fail metrics, waveform capture, and auto-generated reports.Integrate testing workflows with Git and CI pipelines.Defect Management
Analyze logs, root-cause issues across controllers, PLCs, and plant models.Document issues, verify fixes, and maintain full requirement-to-test-to-result traceability.Rig Reliability & Safety
Maintain calibration, configurations, and harness integrity.Implement system health checks and monitor safe lab procedures.Minimum Qualifications
B.S. / M.S. in Electrical, Controls, Power, Mechatronics, or related engineering field.3 7+ years of experience in embedded / controls testing & validation using HIL.Strong proficiency with MATLAB / Simulink, including Simulink Test, Simulink Real-Time, and Simscape Electrical.Experience programming in Python or VBA.Hands-on Speedgoat experience at ~1 ms base rates (fixed-step solvers, rate transitions, task partitioning).PLC integration experience (Schneider M580 preferred) and familiarity with IEC 61131-3.Knowledge of protocols : Modbus / TCP and DNP3 (commands, telemetry, timestamped events).Experience with Git version control and collaborative development workflows.Excellent communication skills with strong analytical, debugging, and documentation capabilities.Top of Form
