The Manufacturing Engineer (ME) at Pulsafeeder is a vital role in the evaluation, refinement, design, installation, and maintenance of manufacturing processes, procedures, and equipment. The ME will apply and execute lean principles, thinking and methods to make process improvements in a high mix / low volume operation. The ME will identify opportunities for ongoing improvements through Rapid Improvement Events, Just Do It Events, and project management. All initiatives for this role will be to achieve the highest possible levels of product quality, increase the manufacturing output, and reduce manufacturing waste and cost. This will be accomplished through effective engagement with the production team along with the cross functional departments within the business.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES :

Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements and equipment layout

Drive process improvements to lower costs, improve throughput, and increase efficiency while maintaining or exceeding quality and safety

Troubleshoot and countermeasure problems with existing production processes to ensure throughput and improved first pass yield

Drive the identification and adoption of "best practices" from other IDEX business units. Also, benchmark industry “best practices” and make recommendations for improvement

Responsible for Tooling and Fixtures - evaluate and coordinate with CI Manager, Quality Engineer and Production Manager for all tooling and fixture updates and / or replacements

Design assembly fixtures and tooling to increase manufacturing efficiencies

Lead the selection, installation and validation of new equipment to improve manufacturing processes

Ownership of standard product routings across all product lines (i.e. conducting annual time trials) in collaboration with Commercial Engineering and Continuous Improvement Manager

Acts as a champion and driver for Lean / Six Sigma best practices. Lead and facilitate Rapid Improvement Events

Help to sustain and improve the visual factory management processes

Manufacturing representative for the new product development team and process to ensure the successful transition from concept and development to the manufacturability of the product

Establish new production processes and develop standardized documentation including work instructions, visual aids, and operating procedures on the production floor for new product development and engineering changes

Lead process FMEAs and use the output to develop robust manufacturing processes. Also use the output to determine in process testing and final product inspection requirements

Coordinate equipment maintenance and repair services and ensure that the manufacturer’s procedures and instructions are followed in order to keep production equipment operational

Responsible for operational productivity improvements

Assist in the planning and implementation of lean manufacturing strategies

Ensure that the company’s manufacturing processes are in compliance with all government laws and regulations

Write process deviation and rework instructions as required

Shop floor support as needed

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

Minimum 3 years’ experience in lean manufacturing or process-oriented environment

B.S. in an Engineering discipline

Able to read, understand and produce Engineering CAD drawings utilizing geometric tolerancing per ASME Y14.5M-1994.

Experience with 3D CAD system, preferably Solidworks

Black belt certification preferred

Experience in ISO9001 manufacturing environment

Experience in Union environment recommended

Experience leading RIEs (Kaizen events)

Familiarity with pumps, hydraulics and instrumentation preferred

Fundamental knowledge of manufacturing process, milling, turning, grinding, castings, and surface treatments

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

In depth understanding and ability to apply the principles and tools of lean manufacturing including value stream mapping, 5S, flow, Kanban, FMEA, SMEDD, etc.

Possess a strong sense of ownership and drive to successfully utilize available resources.

Excellent communication / presentation skills (written and verbal).

Well organized, and comfortable working under pressure and by using problem-solving methodology.

Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Bias towards action and velocity in execution

Ability to influence behavioral change

Able to work collaboratively with all departments

Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds. May be required to move from an air-conditioned area to a non-air conditioned plant area. Must wear PPE as required.

Total Rewards

The compensation range for this position is $57,900.00 - $86,900.00, depending on experience. This position may be eligible for performance based bonus plan.
