Job Description Could you bring clarity to complexity by designing solutions that keep training operations on track for one of the most critical training programs in the country? The Training Applications and Support (TAS) organization, part of the Naval Training & Simulation (NTS) Department, provides applications used by personnel at the Moored Training Ships (MTS) and Kesselring Site (KS) to manage activities for the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Training Program (NNPTP) Prototype phase of training. TAS has developed optimization models that help manage the Training Program effectively. The Training Capability Model (TCM) application is used internally by NTS to make data-driven decisions for allocating students to Nuclear Power Training Units (NPTUs). The Computer Assisted Student Scheduler (COMPASS) application is used by NPTUs to create detailed training schedules. We are seeking a Software Developer to maintain and enhance these optimization models. Experience with executing the NNPTP is preferred, along with skills in applied mathematics to solve complex problems. Major duties include maintaining optimization code in the GAMS language, keeping documentation and configuration control up to date, and working with NPTU personnel and other NTS units to ensure models accurately reflect real-world conditions. The Software Developer will collaborate with stakeholders to identify improvements and modernize the TCM product. Additionally, the role will lead efforts to use data analytics to provide insights that improve Training Program management. This position may be based at either NPTU-C or KS. Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience. Pay Range $116,700.00 - $182,400.00 annually Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities : Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. We rely on the dedication and innovation of our nearly 8000 engineers, scientists, technicians, and support personnel. All candidates must be U.S. citizens.
