Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Director of Foundation and Government Grants, the Grants Development Specialist secures external funding from public and private sources for Holyoke Community College and the Holyoke Community College Foundation, Inc. through proposal writing, submission, and procurement. The Specialist facilitates teams of faculty, staff, and external partners along the entire grants development process. As a part of the Institutional Advancement team, the Specialist assists with department planning and communication, as well as promotion of the HCC mission. The Grants Development Specialist will focus especially upon pursuit of workforce development and adult education grant opportunities, working closely with HCCs Division of Business and Community Services.

  • In collaboration with the Director and Assistant Director of Foundation and Government Grants, proactively identify, assess the feasibility of, research, and pursue public and private grant opportunities that match the mission and strategic plan of the College and HCC Foundation.
  • In collaboration with the Vice President for Business and Community Services and the Assistant Vice President of Adult Education and Workforce Development, develop a deep knowledge of workforce development and adult education programs, institutional and community partnerships, existing and emerging funding opportunities, in preparation to respond to short-turnaround grant and contract opportunities.
  • Develop and write proposals, case statements, letters of inquiry and other correspondence to government agencies, foundations, corporations and other national and regional entities for submission through web-based portals, email, and mail.
  • Facilitate the work of grant project development teams including faculty, staff and external partners (when applicable) in the completion of grant proposals.
  • Negotiate agreements and budgets with grant project development teams; secure letters of commitment and Memoranda of Agreement.
  • Research, compile and analyze data, and identify trends and best practices within community colleges, higher education, workforce development, and other relevant fields.
  • Under guidance from the Director of Grant Compliance and Contract Administration in the Business Office, ensure grant submissions adhere to federal, state, and college policies and procedures.
  • Promote the colleges mission and needs with funding agencies and foundations.
  • Contribute to the annual goals and assist with priority setting of the Office of Foundation and Government Grants.
  • Assist with outreach and communications to campus constituencies about the support resources and policies of the Office of Foundation and Government Grants.
  • Perform College Service : play an active role in campus-wide committees, strategic planning activities, and community advising groups.
  • Perform administrative tasks associated with department activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree with three (3) to five (5) years of demonstrated experience in grant writing, research, and project planning / development;
  • Demonstrated experience preparing grant project budgets;
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating teams (i.e., faculty, staff, administrators, funding agency representatives, external partners, and grant writers from other institutions) on the development and synthesis of cohesive grant proposals;
  • Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft suite, Google applications, and web-based grant application portals;
  • Experience working within and meeting deadlines;
  • Demonstrated writing, conceptual, oral communication, organizational, and facilitation skills; Experience, willingness, and ability to work effectively with diverse teams of faculty, staff, students, and external partners.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree;
  • Experience working in community colleges;
  • Other higher education institutions or workforce / economic development organizations;
  • Experience in working to support workforce readiness and adult education training, curricula, or programming;
  • Demonstrated experience leading projects with a diverse team;
  • Experience developing or working with evaluation models (logic models, theory of practice); Experience developing grant proposals for projects with a focus on innovation.
  • Full-time, MCCC Unit Position

    Salary Range : $62,159 - $75,089 / year (Grade 4); plus a comprehensive State benefits package.

    Hours : 37.5 hrs. / week.

    Funding Source : State.
