Field Service Controls Engineer - Life Science Division

We're seeking a skilled Field Service Controls Engineer to support and troubleshoot advanced automated systems within the Life Science industry. This role is based in Cookeville, TN, with local and global travel up to 75% to support customer sites. You'll work hands-on with cutting-edge automation technologies, solving complex challenges, delivering exceptional customer service, and contributing to impactful solutions across multiple industries.

How You'll Contribute

  • Travel to customer locations-both scheduled and emergency visits-for equipment support, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Diagnose issues and make adjustments to bring systems back to operational status.
  • Provide remote technical support via multiple connectivity platforms.
  • Read, interpret, and debug pneumatic / electrical schematics and bills of materials using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Program, modify, and optimize robotic paths to enhance performance.
  • Develop advanced control programs for automated devices and machinery.
  • Conduct electrical testing using a multimeter.
  • Apply proper wiring techniques to ensure system safety and reliability.
  • Design ladder logic and machine controls with strong proficiency in relevant software tools.
  • Collaborate with customers and internal project teams to define performance requirements.
  • Maintain expertise in electrical and pneumatic components.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to support team growth.

What We're Looking For

  • BS / BA in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a related controls or automation engineering role.
  • Experience working with Life Science equipment and validation processes.
  • Willingness and ability to travel locally and internationally up to 75%.
  • Required Hardware / Software Expertise

  • PLC : Allen Bradley (Logix / Studio 5000), Siemens (Step 7, TIA Portal)
  • HMI : Allen Bradley, Siemens
  • Robotics : Fanuc, Epson
  • Networking : Ethernet, Ethernet / IP, Profinet, IO-Link, EtherCAT
  • Motion Control : Allen Bradley, Siemens, IAI, Festo, B&R
  • Vision Systems : Cognex, Keyence
  • Desired Experience

  • PLC : Omron, Mitsubishi, Schneider, Beckhoff
  • HMI : Omron, Mitsubishi, Schneider, Proface
  • Robotics : Kuka, Yaskawa, Denso, Staubli
  • Testing / Monitoring : Force (Kistler, SigPOD), Leak Testing (CTS, Cosmo, etc.)
  • Database Tools : Ignition, FTTM, SQL
  • Mechanical / electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for long periods.
  • Frequent standing, walking, pushing, pulling, overhead reaching, and bending.
  • Comfortable working beneath machinery and in overhead positions.
  • Must be able to lift : 2050 lbs occasionally, 1025 lbs frequently, up to 10 lbs continuously.
  • Near-vision acuity (with or without correction).
