Job Title : Registered Nurse Profession : Nursing Specialty : PACU Duration : 13 weeks Shift : Mid Hours per Shift : 12 Experience : Minimum 2 years in specialty required, no first-time travelers accepted License : Compact or state license required Certifications : BLS, ACLS, PALS Must-Have : Previous charge experience preferred Experience with patient ratios of 1 : 2 and 1 : 4 Travel experience required Description : Traveler must be aware of potential hurricanes. The hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. Storms can occur outside of this window. Upon accepting an assignment, the unit manager may assign the traveler to an "Emergency Team." There will be an expectation to stay until after the storm passes or be part of the relief team. Specific details regarding pay will be communicated during storms, as impacts vary. Acceptance of the travel contract signifies acceptance of these conditions. Certifications must be current : BLS, ACLS, and PALS. Call is every third weekend, usually scheduled on a volunteer basis. Call shifts are either 7 AM to 7 PM or 7 PM to 7 AM. Holidays are part of the call schedule. The patient-to-nurse ratio can go up to 1 : 4 for overflow patients. Travelers should have prior experience with charting systems, preferably Epic. Community hospital experience preferred as well as LTAC and Trauma Level I experience. Skills required include : Airway assessment Blood product administration Cardiac arrest CPR Care of ventilated patients Central line care and management Emergency medications Medication reconciliation Pain assessment and management PICC line care and management Post-operative procedures Spinal surgery Vascular surgery The unit cares for patients of all ages including adolescents, infants, adults, pediatrics, and geriatrics. Candidates must have an updated NURSYS report. Previous permanent staff or agency contractors must be separated for one full year before returning as travel staff.
