POSITION SUMMARY The Instructor in the Adult Training department is responsible for the supervision and support of the individuals served.
The Instructor assists in the implementation of care while attending to and respecting individual needs to support growth and independence.
The Instructor is responsible for adhering to corporate policies and procedures as well as state regulations.
The instructor provides supervision and support in the program and the community.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1.
High school diploma or general education development certificate.
Some college preferred with background in education or related human services field. 2.
Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred, customer service experience. 3.
Valid PA driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Provide a caring, safe environment by attending to individual needs, respecting differences, and supporting growth and independence. 2.
Assist each program participant with personal hygiene, dressing, eating, and other necessary skills. 3.
Attend to program participants’ emotional, physical, or medical needs and report concerns to responsible personnel. 4.
Provide input into the planning and development of Individual Support Plans (ISPs) by attending team meetings. 5.
Assist in the implementation of ISPs and related activities, including social, recreational, educational, and developmental. 6.
Ensure compliance with corporate policies, procedures and Office of Developmental Programs’ regulations. 7.
Attend required meetings. 8.
Provide transportation for program participants. 9.
Locate and develop meaningful community activities. 10.
Serve as ambassador for program participants and the corporation, promoting the mission at all times. 11.
Assist program participants in identifying and maintaining natural supports. 12.
Maximize opportunities for choice and decision making for program participants.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT The physical demands outlined here are necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the instructor’s job.

This includes avoiding trips and falls, practicing proper back care and lifting techniques, and adhering to fire regulations.
Occasionally, they may need to lift heavier weights, such as when assisting individuals with transfers to a wheelchair or toilet.

Finger dexterity and close vision are essential.
This includes delivering / retrieving materials, attending meetings, or participating in activities outside the personal workspace.
