Moran Towing Corporation (www.morantug.com) has an opportunity available for a Captain , for Moran San Juan, Inc . This is a full-time position. Moran San Juan, Inc., located in San Juan, Puerto Rico, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Moran Towing Corporation. Moran Towing Corporation is one of the oldest companies in America with a history dating back to 1860, and offers a range of marine services.
Position Summary
The Captain, as a Supervisor, is a direct representative of Moran Towing Corporation and reports to the General Manager (GM). The Captain has absolute responsibility and authority with respect to the Vessel and crew. The Captain is the designated Vessel Security Officer (VSO) and Vessel Safety Officer.
Responsibilities
International Safety Management Code (ISM) Responsibilities
- Must be fully conversant with the Safety Management System.
- Implement the Company's Mission Statement / Safety and Environmental Policy and lead the crew in the observation of the Policy.
- Issue appropriate orders in a clear and simple manner.
- Verify safety and pollution activities.
- Review the Safety Management System and report its deficiencies to the OUM.
- Assume responsibility for external and internal audits.
Vessel Operations Responsibilities
Familiarize with the current operational status upon joining the vessel, with the off-going Captain.Ensure proper turnover of command.Ensure the safety of all vessel personnel.Report unsafe situations or opportunities for improvement to the OUM.Ensure the vessel is seaworthy prior to commencing a voyage and comply with relevant rules, regulations, codes, and guidelines.Consider crew input on safety and engineering matters.Manage and supervise crew compliance with Moran policy and regulations.Conduct navigational audits of mates to ensure compliance with regulations and policies.Implement stowaway prevention measures and searches.Prohibit contraband on board (including alcohol, illegal drugs, and firearms) except as authorized by the OUM.Ensure lawful orders are carried out by all onboard.Enforce standing orders as necessary for safety and record them in the night order book if used.Establish crew work rules, duties, performance standards, watch periods, maintenance schedules, emergency procedures, safety meetings and drills as required by Company policy.Personnel Responsibilities
Recommend personnel for promotion, hire, transfer, and discharge as appropriate.Maintain discipline onboard the vessel.Orient new personnel reporting for duty.Address informal crew grievances, inform the OUM of dispositions, and make appropriate recommendations.Dismiss or place ashore any crewmember or guest whose conduct threatens safety, environment, crew, or service to customers; placing ashore to be done in consultation with shoreside management.Responsibilities To The Company
Report deficiencies and other matters affecting safe operations or pollution risk requiring shore-based assistance.Contribute to Company reputation and positive customer relations by ensuring safe and efficient vessel operation in line with the corporate Mission Statement, including safe performance, efficiency, productivity, appearance, maintenance, and readiness.Report information that may lead to more uniform, efficient, and productive business.Required Qualifications
Merchant Mariners Credential (MMC).Master of Towing Vessels.Radar Observer.Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC).STCW certification (if required for service).USCG 719k Physical examination meeting Merchant Mariner Medical certification.Pre-Employment Drug Screening.Proven satisfactory boat handling skills.10 years' experience within the industry.Good leadership, organizational and record-keeping skills.Excellent communication skills.Proficiency with MS Office.Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in maritime or related field.Physical Demands

Our target pay range for the Captain position is $44.00 - $48.00 per hour. This pay range represents Moran's commitment to pay transparency and is a reasonable estimate of possible compensation for this role at the time of posting.
