Warehouse Lead
Job Summary
This role supports the efficient and effective operation of the warehouse department. The Warehouse Lead assists with supervising staff, managing inventory, and handling inbound and outbound processing, including shipping, receiving, and material transfers. A key aspect of this position is fostering clear communication and collaboration among team members and ensuring a safe work environment. This individual will also contribute to training new employees and implementing new procedures to enhance overall warehouse productivity. While primarily supporting a specialized sales division, this role will also provide support to other wholesale divisions as needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Execute picking, packing, processing, and preparation of outgoing small package and Less Than Truckload (LTL) shipments.
- Utilize an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system for various warehouse functions, including processing transactions (e.g., pick lists, delivery notes, invoices), looking up inventory and bin locations, performing stock entries, and creating packing lists and other shipping documentation (including commercial paperwork when applicable).
- Verify all small package and LTL shipments for order accuracy and product condition.
- Assist with overseeing the receiving process and scheduling of trucks and containers, both physically and systematically, to meet sales objectives. Allocate labor resources based on workload.
- Maintain accurate inventory records, assist with and complete cycle counts, and help resolve inventory discrepancies.
- Physically and systematically receive purchase orders within the ERP system.
- Load and unload LTL, Full Truckload (FTL), or container shipments.
- Interact with customers picking up orders to ensure satisfaction and address potential issues.
- Report equipment maintenance needs and complete daily forklift checklists.
- Oversee all housekeeping activities within the warehouse, including aisle cleanup, trash removal, sweeping, general cleaning and organizing, bin consolidation, and replenishment tasks.
- Train new employees on warehouse functions and participate in department meetings.
- Collaborate with other operational departments to achieve departmental objectives.
- Communicate with sales team members regarding freight or small parcel claims, shipping delays, returns, or other warehouse-related issues.
- Promote company policies and participate in required company-wide programs.
- Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required for specific tasks.
- Adhere to company policies, procedures, and industry regulations to ensure compliance and quality standards.
- Demonstrate sound judgment and escalate relevant matters to management, understanding job responsibilities and their impact on others and business operations.
- Follow all established safety procedures and guidelines at all times.
- Perform other duties and skills as assigned by supervisor / management.
Competencies / Personal Characteristics
Proficiency with standard office software (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software). Experience with ERP and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) is a plus.Demonstrates leadership by example, motivates others, and works effectively with minimal supervision.Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).Adapts well to changing priorities and circumstances.Capable of working in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment with repetitive tasks and the ability to lift heavy objects.Demonstrates a strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to established protocols.Able to understand and interpret pick lists, Bills of Lading, delivery receipts, packing lists, and other shipping / receiving documentation.Punctual, reliable, and flexible with work hours, including overtime and some Saturdays.Possesses strong attention to detail.Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.Maintains a clean and safe work environment.Committed to high quality and performance standards.Education / Experience Requisites
High school diploma or GED equivalent, or 5 years of warehouse experience with a minimum of 2 years of leadership experience (in a lead or supervisory role).Forklift certification required with demonstrated experience.Required shipping experience with small parcel carriers (e.g., UPS, FedEx, DHL) and freight carriers. Experience with Transportation Management System (TMS) portals is essential.Compensation / Pay Rate (Up to) : $20.00 - $22.00
