Job Summary
Terminal Railroad Association of St. Louis is seeking a self-motivated individual to work in a fast paced and ever-changing technical environment. Candidates will develop into Signal Maintainers and be responsible for maintaining and installing various types of signal equipment, including highway grade crossing protection, and train traffic control systems.
Primary Activities and Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations, and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).
- Inspect and test signal circuitry and equipment to a high-quality standard.
- Troubleshoot and repair malfunctions in signal equipment.
- Build, install and dismantle signal communication structures, dig and fill holes and trenches, set masts and foundations, climb poles and ladders to install equipment, unreel and install wires and cables.
- Safely and effectively operate a variety of hand tools and power operated tools.
- Comply with company and federal safety rules, policies and procedures that include wearing required personal protective equipment, responding to safety concerns and taking appropriate action.
- Complete annual safety rules training and pass examination.

Shifts / Hours
Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, various shift work, and holidays.
Pay Rate
Entry Rate - $37.01 hourly Full Rate - $45.18 hourly
Training
In addition to on-the-job training, qualified candidates will become Signal Maintainer certified at an extensive off-site training facility.
Entry level job candidates are hired as assistant signalmen and are expected to pass qualification steps to the Signal Maintainer level in two years or less.
Probationary Period
60 Days
Union Membership
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement, union membership and monthly dues are required.
