Job Description :

The Binghamton University Department of Anthropology invites applications for an assistant or associate tenure-track faculty member with expertise in the Indigenous Archaeology of Eastern North America, to begin in August 2026. The preferred candidate will have an active research program prioritizing community-based collaborative research, environmental justice, Indigenous sovereignty, and / or critical heritage studies. Those with expertise in Precontact or Contact time periods, ceramic analysis, geophysical archaeology, geoarchaeology, public archaeology, and / or cultural resource management archaeology are particularly encouraged to apply. The candidate who fills this position will teach core courses at the undergraduate and graduate level, including courses on Indigenous prehistory of Eastern North America. The successful candidate will contribute to our four-field anthropology program, our graduate program, and in the future may be asked to serve as director of our MA in Public Archaeology program for a term. A PhD in hand by time of appointment, regional expertise and fieldwork, and teaching experience are required.

• PhD in Anthropology, with a focus in Archaeology, by August 17, 2026
• Demonstrated expertise in archaeology of Eastern North America
• Teaching experience at the college level
