Pay Details
The pay rate for this position is $24 / hr per hour based on experience and geographic location.
- This position falls under the U.S. Department of Labor Service Contract Act (SCA). In addition to hourly pay, a Health and Welfare stipend of $4.98 per hour will be provided for up to 40 hours per week.
- You are also eligible to receive pay for up to 10 holidays and annual vacation time payout, as well as access to an employee discount program.
- Travel time and mileage is fully reimbursable.
Project Details
RTI International is seeking part-time Field Interviewers to work on the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) , a government-sponsored research study that has been conducted since 1971. This important study provides up-to-date information on alcohol, tobacco, drug use, mental health, and other health-related issues in the United States.
As a field interviewer, you will contact selected households and communicate the importance of participating in NSDUH. Successful field interviewers need to be self-motivated, outgoing, and able to work on a variable schedule working when respondents are likely at home. The ideal candidate is someone looking for a long-term career, passionate about the health and well-being of their community, and who does not want to work in an office.

Field Interviewers are responsible for :
Traveling frequently to selected locations to recruit study participantsMaking in-person contact with selected respondents to discuss the study, answer questions, and obtain participationPerforming proper administration of a computer-assisted interview, collecting confidential information, and administering standardized questionnaires to selected individualsIndependently managing administrative duties, including participating in conference calls and completing online trainingsTransmitting data as scheduledAssuming full and legal responsibility for use and care of project issued equipmentSafeguarding any participant incentives, issued equipment, or project materials against damage, loss, or theftAssuming responsibility for and carefully tracking all participant incentivesSubmitting timely and accurate Time and Expense reportsAttending virtually scheduled meetings with other members of the project teamApproaching selected households without a prior appointmentWorking and driving after darkAttending weekly scheduled calls with Field SupervisorAdhering to a schedule set by the Field Supervisor for respondent contact timesProviding availability for field observations conducted by a member of client or RTI staffMaintaining required system updates to project equipment and completion of administrative tasksQualifications
Minimum Required Qualifications
Must be at least 21 years old at the time of employmentMust possess High School Diploma or GEDPossess effective communication skills through speech and listeningFluency in English through reading, writing, and speakingAvailable for entire training and data collection periodAble to successfully complete trainingMust have a valid driver's license and reliable personal automobile available for business useComfortable using RTI issued tablet, laptop and other associated equipmentAccess to password-protected Wi-Fi connection for data transmissions and administrative responsibilitiesAble to keep project information confidentialWillingness to work in various types of weather conditions and after darkMaintain regular access to a computer with a webcam or an internet enabled device with a forward-facing camera (e.g. tablet, smartphone) and reliable internet connection for completion of all training courses and virtual attendance for all required meetingsPosition involves physical demands of carrying, lifting, standing, bending, stretching, stooping, typing, and climbing stairs. The data collection period is expected to start in February 2026On average, you will be needed part-time approximately 20-25 hours per week when work is availableOn average, you should be available to work in the field 4 days each weekThe majority of this work is anticipated to be evenings and weekendsEach of your trips to the field are expected to be at least 4 hours long not including travel timeTraining Details
Field Interviewers are required to successfully complete trainings which include :
Completion of pre-training coursesAttend a 5-day virtual training. Each training day will consist of 4 hours of instructor led live training via Zoom, 2-3 hours of independently completed tasks including on-line courses, 2 hours live Zoom assistance provided after class for those wanting or requiring extra helpFollowing training, must complete and successfully pass a certification demonstrating ability to complete a NSDUH field interviewAttendance at all trainings is mandatoryAccommodation
